What does Xiao Zhi mean?
From: Xiaozhi Tang Dynasty: Du Fu
The days and personnel change rapidly every day, and then the winter solstice, after the winter solstice, after the weather gets warmer, spring comes back.
Because of the long days, female embroidery workers can embroider several colorful silk threads, and the torch vehicle has flown over Jiaguan.
The river bank seems to be waiting for the last month to pass, so that the willows can stick out their branches and take out new buds, and the mountains can break through the cold so that the plum blossoms can bloom.
Although I am in a foreign land, the scenery here is no different from my hometown, so let the children pour wine and have a drink.
Translation:
The weather and personnel are intertwined. After the solstice of winter, the white days are getting longer and longer, the weather is getting warmer and warmer, and spring is coming. Embroidery women workers can embroider more colorful silk threads, and the six methods of blowing pipes have been flying. The dike is waiting for the twelfth lunar month, the willows are growing, and the mountains are breaking the cold to let the plum blossoms bloom. Although I am in a foreign country, the scenery here is no different from my hometown. Let the children pour the wine and drink it off.
Extended data:
This poem was written by Du Fu in Kuizhou in the first year of Tang Daizong Dali (AD 766). At that time, Du Fu's life was more stable and his mood was more comfortable.
"Xiaozhi" describes the seasonal changes from winter to the day before and after. It not only uses embroidery to add lines to write the growth during the day, but also uses the willow trees by the river to turn green and the plum blossoms on the mountain to vividly write the scene of winter and spring. The last two sentences of the poem say that he evokes memories of his hometown from the scene in front of him.
The whole poem closely revolves around the "smallest" season, narrating, describing scenery and expressing feelings, full of strong life interest, and cutting without being extensive. The author points out that there is a close relationship between the titles of Spring in Yang Sheng and Solstice in Winter. The two couplets in the middle are separated, and the couplets directly inherit the seasonal characteristics of nature, and the necklace directly inherits the scenery characteristics of winter and spring.
Although in a foreign land, the cloud is different, so the poet taught his children to pour wine and have a drink. This move is consistent with the tone of the poem that winter breeds spring breath, and both reflect the poet's rare pleasant mood.
