What is the southernmost city in China?

The southernmost city in China is Sansha City. Sansha City is a prefecture-level city in Hainan Province, the closest area to the equator in China, and the city with the largest total area, the smallest land area and the least population in China. Sansha City has a land area of more than 20 square kilometers and a land and sea area of more than 2 million square kilometers. It has jurisdiction over Xisha District and Nansha District, and 10 communities.

Sansha City is located in the south-central South China Sea of China and the south of Hainan Province. Xisha Islands is the northernmost island in Sansha City, and its main part is divided into Yongle Islands and Xuande Islands. Zhongsha islands is located in the southeast of Xisha Islands, mostly atolls and shoals, and Huangyan Island is the only island exposed to the sea at high tide. Nansha Islands is the southernmost and most widely distributed archipelago in Sansha City, which is mainly divided into three groups: east, south and west.

Sansha has a tropical maritime monsoon climate. Directly exposed to the sun twice a year, the annual total solar radiation is 140 kcal/cm2. It is summer weather all year round, and the heat and temperature are the highest in China, but there are few hot summers due to the adjustment of the ocean.

Sansha sea area is less affected by continental climate and land runoff, and the deep-sea basin has high water depth, salinity, transparency and small seasonal variation of water temperature.
