What natural obstacles may be encountered during the construction of China-Myanmar pipeline?
From April 29th to May13rd, 2008, the joint investigation team composed of Jiangsu Water Exploration Institute, PetroChina Pipeline Company, Myanmar Oil and Gas Company and Asian companies completed the route survey of the controlled engineering site of the China-Myanmar pipeline in Myanmar, specifically determined the specific location of the two-ditch and one-river (Mi Dan Ga River crossing, Yewangchun Trench crossing and Kalaba Trench crossing) that we will undertake soon, and carried out the engineering site. At the same time, through the coordination of the Myanmar office of PetroChina Global Company, we reached a preliminary intention with Asian companies on the later work, such as the transportation of equipment, the allocation of translators, the provision of construction oil, and the lease of vehicles and boats. In view of the short-term nature of tourist visas for construction workers, an invitation letter for business visas was also sent to China through Universal Picture. The first on-site reconnaissance trip was more than 2,000 kilometers, crossing seven provinces (states), which was suitable for the once-in-a-century storm in Myanmar. Most of the roads are rugged, narrow and tortuous, crossing the Rakhine Mountains with an altitude of1.300m and a depth of more than1.000km twice.
The survey of this crossing project is very difficult. First, the influence of rainy season on construction; Second, Myanmar's traffic is backward and the transition period is long, which has a great impact on the construction period. Because the construction site from Mandalay to Trench cannot be directly transported by land, the roads along the way are rugged and there are many wooden bridges, and there are no roads for heavy equipment and vehicles. It is necessary to bypass Yangon from Mandalay by land, and then ship from Yangon to Kyaukphyu. The former takes about 3 days, and the latter takes about 5 days, during which there can be no bad weather that affects the normal navigation of the ship. Thirdly, the complicated sea conditions in the Karaba Trench; Fourth, the source of project funds is single, and there are certain risks in fund management; Fifth, communication and network are not smooth, and information feedback is not timely; In addition, the long front line and inconvenient transportation lead to a long sample transportation cycle, which affects the test results.
At present, Myanmar has entered the rainy season, and the continuous rainstorm along the coast has brought great difficulties to the construction. We expect the on-site construction personnel to overcome all difficulties and successfully complete the task, and wish them peace.
The gas pipeline of the China-Myanmar oil pipeline project needs to pass through the Straits of Malacca, which is located between the North Indian Ocean, the Malay Peninsula and Sumatra, and is a long and narrow waterway connecting the South China Sea of China and the Andaman Sea. Together with sunda strait and makassar strait in the south, it has become an important channel to communicate with the Pacific Ocean and the Indian Ocean, and also a maritime hub for exchanges between Asia, Africa, Europe and Oceania. Its traffic location is very important, and it is known as "Gibraltar in the East".
The total length is 1 185 km, the northwest exit is 370 km wide, and the narrowest part of the southeast exit is 37 km wide. The navigable waterway is generally 13.5km wide, and the narrowest part is only 2km, which can open four cargo ships at the same time. The general water depth of the Strait is 25- 1 13m, increasing from southeast to northwest.
It should be noted that when some ships with large displacement, especially large oil tankers pass through here, the bottom of the ship is only ten or even several meters away from the seabed. In the event of a shipwreck, the shipping channel in Malacca will be blocked for at least a week.
In August, 2004, Leo, an energy expert from Yunnan University, and others put forward the proposal of building the oil pipeline from Sittwe to Kunming in Myanmar, so as to solve the "Malacca dilemma" in China with the "China-Myanmar oil pipeline".
However, there are many problems in the construction of a new oil pipeline to introduce foreign oil from the sea to Chinese mainland through Myanmar. It is relatively easy to build a gas pipeline from Myanmar to Kunming, so the "China-Myanmar Gas Pipeline" landed first.
