Zhanjiang new year custom

Every household began to put up Spring Festival couplets. Spring Festival couplets, also known as couplets, have a history of more than 2,000 years. Wang Anshi, a great writer in the Song Dynasty, famously said, "Thousands of households always exchange new peaches for old ones", which is the custom of posting Spring Festival couplets in the New Year. Spring Festival couplets are written in red paper, which some people in Zhanjiang call "paste red". The contents of Spring Festival couplets are very extensive, but they are all inseparable from expressing happiness, auspiciousness and expectations and prayers for the future. In the past, the most commonly used couplet of Zhanjiang residents was "People are in the sky, spring is full of kung fu"; Merchants' couplets are mostly "business is booming all over the world, and financial resources are flourishing up to three rivers". In the past, couplets were written by good calligraphers, and there was a charge for polishing them. Now there are unified printed materials for sale in the market, as well as new varieties of exquisite bronzing. While posting Spring Festival couplets, Zhanjiang people also have the custom of posting door gods, New Year pictures and the word "Fu" upside down. Door gods are attached to two doors. Traditionally, they are some outstanding figures in history. They are powerful and ferocious. They can ward off evil spirits and prevent disasters, such as Wei Zhi and Weichi Gong in the Tang Dynasty, Guan Gong and Zhang Fei in the Three Kingdoms. New Year pictures are used to decorate rooms and halls in rural areas and increase the festive atmosphere. In addition to happiness, wealth and longevity, there are many historical themes, among which the most popular are the four ancient beauties, A Dream of Red Mansions and Water Margin figures. Putting the word "Fu" upside down means putting the word "Fu" upside down on the wall, lintel and door to show that "Fu has arrived".

On New Year's Eve, Zhanjiang people attach great importance to "reunion dinner", also called "eating New Year's Eve". In addition to family reunion and happiness, they also pray for the safety of the whole family, so people who work far away from home try their best to come back for the New Year. The reunion dinner is the highlight of the Spring Festival, which is not only colorful, but also very meaningful. According to the custom, you should worship your ancestors or gods before eating the New Year's Eve, and burn incense before eating. Generally, there are chicken (planned), fish (more than one year old), oyster sauce (good market), lettuce (rich), yuba (rich), garlic (calculated) and so on for good luck. Reunion dinner is also popular in some places in Zhanjiang. When the people who traveled far away did not return, they put their seats and chopsticks on the table as a sign of reunion to show their nostalgia. If there are newlyweds, put an extra pair of bowls and chopsticks for the coming year. This meal is usually specially prepared by the Communist Youth League that year, and it will not be finished until next year, which shows that the mind is willing but unable to do so.

With the improvement of people's living standards, in order to reduce the fatigue of making New Year's Eve dinner, it has become more and more popular for Zhanjiang people to eat New Year's Eve dinner in hotels and restaurants in recent years. Better hotels often need to be booked several months in advance. Many people also injected new contents into the New Year's Eve dinner, singing karaoke, playing sparrows and taking photos as a souvenir to make the reunion dinner colorful.

The source of viewing the old is very early, as mentioned in Tang Du Fu's poems: "Viewing the old man's family, the pepper plate once sang flowers." Keeping the old age usually means that adults sit around and talk, stay up all night, think about the lost years and eagerly look forward to the New Year, which also shows energy and dragon spirit. The Records of Leizhou County records the custom of observing the Lunar New Year in Leizhou during Jiaqing period in Qing Dynasty: "During the Chinese New Year, incense is burned and firecrackers are set off, and a' Qing banquet' is held to worship the incense gods and ancestors, which is called' providing food for the Chinese New Year'." The so-called "Suxing" means that parents and elders wake up their children in the middle of the night at 12 to set foot on the new year, put on new clothes and give lucky money. Lucky money, commonly known as "wearing a shirt belt" in Zhanjiang, is often called "profit", and asking for lucky money is called "teasing profit". From the old to the younger generation, mainly children, unmarried adults and children are treated equally, and fees can also be charged. Lucky money is intended to suppress evil worship, hoping that children will grow up quickly and be smart and progressive. "Fun" is the happiest activity for children. You can buy snacks or firecrackers with lucky money, and frugal and sensible children save money to pay tuition. Hand spikes are still popular in some rural areas of Zhanjiang. When the time comes, firecrackers will explode. Today, the city has replaced watching the Spring Festival Gala on CCTV, and after watching it, it has entered a new year.

Playing with bare mouth on New Year's Day

The first day of the first lunar month is the New Year. Everywhere is decorated with lights and colorful, beaming. Adults and children put on their best clothes and say "Congratulations on getting rich" when they meet, wishing each other a happy New Year. The first day is the beginning of a year, but Zhanjiang people have extended this day to a year. Always be careful, always be lucky, avoid harsh words and avoid mistakes. Once in a while, if you say something unlucky, you will immediately make up a few remedies: "Make a fortune for every misfortune" and "Scandal doesn't work, but good things work"; I accidentally broke a dish, and immediately refused to drive: "On the ground of bloom" and "Flowers bloom with wealth".

The first year of junior high school is very grand in the countryside. Early in the morning, worship the ancestors, refuel the longevity lamp, and then set off firecrackers to open the door. It means a good start and good luck, five blessings. On this day, three taboos are still popular in rural areas: no killing, no pouring water and no sweeping the floor. Some rural areas are still used to being vegetarian. In recent years, city people's congresses go to restaurants to have morning tea on the first day of New Year's Day, exchange New Year greetings, go shopping after tea, visit parks and watch lion dances, and festival activities are constantly innovating.

On the second day of the Lunar New Year, it is called New Year's Eve. When the whole family eats New Year's Eve, it marks the arrival of the New Year. Later, people brought gifts, children and women to visit relatives and friends, you came and went, and crowds surged everywhere in urban and rural areas. Most people go back to their parents' homes on the second day of the Lunar New Year, and their son-in-law visits their parents-in-law. This is the custom in Zhanjiang.

On the third day of the year, most places in Guangdong are called "Poor People's Day", and people set off firecrackers in the morning to send the poor away. Zhanjiang people strive to get rid of the curse of "red mouth and white tongue" There was no ban on guns before. In cities and rural areas, firecrackers were set off before dawn, and some salt was added to make them bounce off. "Salt" and "speech" are homophonic, that is, in order to get rid of gossip about right and wrong, it is commonly known as "red mouth", which is practiced by almost every household in rural Zhanjiang.

On the seventh day of the seventh lunar month, it is people's day and people's birthday. Traditionally, there are specific birthdays from the first day of the year to the tenth day of the year, followed by "one chicken, three pigs, four sheep, five cows, six horses, seven people, eight valleys, nine soldiers and ten thieves". Birthdays are shared by human beings, and they are celebrated together, usually like New Year's Eve. Chickens kill ducks, and families eat big meals. There used to be an old example of eating seven kinds of vegetables, but now it is changed to big fish and big meat because it is too complicated. If the weather is a little cold, some families still eat by the stove.
