The Qinghai-Tibet Railway starts in Xining City, Qinghai Province, passes through Golmud City, Kunlun Pass and Tuotuo, passes through Tanggula Pass, and enters Amdo, Naqu, Dangxiong, Yangbajing and Lhasa in Xizang Autonomous Region.

The Qinghai-Tibet Railway was completed in two phases. The first phase of the project starts from Xining City, Qinghai Province in the east and ends in Golmud City in the west. 1958 started construction, 1984 was completed and opened to traffic in May.
