The Life of Wu Guoxiong's Characters
Wu Guoxiong, from Chaoyang, Guangdong, is from party member. After graduating from high school in 1961, he was admitted to Nanjing University of Information Science & Technology (formerly Nanjing Institute of Meteorology) to study weather and dynamic meteorology, and graduated in 1966. From 1967 to 1978, he served as weather forecast engineer of Gansu Meteorological Bureau. In 1978, he went to the Graduate School of the University of Science and Technology of China, and then went to study in Britain. From 198 to 1983, he studied in the Department of Physics, Imperial College London, University of London, England, and obtained a doctorate in physics. Later, he worked as a visiting scientist in european centre for medium-range weather forecasts, England. After returning to China at the end of 1984, he worked in lasg, and was promoted to a researcher in the following year. From 1989 to 1991, he served as a senior research professor in the Earth Fluid Laboratory of Princeton University. He has been in his present position since 1993. In 1997, he was elected as an academician of China Academy of Sciences. In 28, he won the "He Liang He Li Fund Science and Technology Progress Award". In 212, he was elected honorary member of the Royal Meteorological Society. In 214, he won the Chen Jiageng Earth Science Award.
