This film is the third work directed by Naoto Takenaka.

One day, Naoto Takenaka, the director, came to the bookstore and accidentally picked up a photo collection of Nobuyoshi Araki, named Tokyo Rihe. Although I hate Araki's pornographic works at ordinary times, I was attracted by the sunflower on the cover. Naoto Takenaka stood in the bookstore and finished reading Tokyo Rihe and cried. So, there was the movie Tokyo Rihe.

1994 At the beginning of this year, Naoto Takenaka met Araki for the first time through Creation magazine. During the dinner, Araki was only polite and perfunctory about Takeshi's idea of adapting this book into a movie, and didn't take it to heart. It was not until later that the artists of the crew kept coming to visit him that he really felt the sincerity of Takenaka.

Takenaka personally went to the bookstore and ordered 20 copies of Tokyo Rihe, giving them to friends and people he thought were like-minded.

1994 One afternoon in the summer, a group of mysterious guests suddenly appeared in front of Araki's house, and they offered to visit Araki. These people are: Masayuki Suo, the director of Talking about Love and Dance; Yoshimitsu Morita, director of Paradise Lost; Shinya Tsukamoto, director of Iron Man; Tomokazu Miura, Miyuki Nakajima, Tadanobu Asano and Matsu Takako, they haven't appeared in public for a long time.

They want to play a role in the play, regardless of the size of the role, for nothing. They begged Araki to agree. Takenaka's persistence finally touched Araki. In addition to participating in the photography direction and script adaptation of the film, he even played the role himself.
