Chapter 44 of "Tao Te Ching": If you love too much, you will spend a lot; if you hide too much, you will perish.

Original text: Which one is related to one’s name and one’s body, which one is related to one’s body and one’s goods, which one is related to gaining and losing. Therefore, if you love too much, you will spend a lot of money, if you hoard too much, you will die richly, if you are satisfied, you will not be disgraced, and if you know how to stop, you will not perish. It can last for a long time

The first part: Which one is related to one’s name and one’s body, which one is more abundant, one’s body and one’s goods, which one is getting and which one is dying, so loving too much will cost a lot, and hoarding too much will lead to death

Is fame more important or body important? Is wealth more important than body? Is it harmful to gain or to lose? In fact, the old sage has not made a judgment on these issues. For example, wealth has no direct relationship with the body, but wealth can sometimes nourish the body. , because you may not be able to live without wealth. Wealth itself cannot nourish the body, but it can indirectly nourish the body; body and reputation, body and goods, both are used by each other, and gains and losses are also used by each other.

This principle was later cited by the Taoist Zhuangzi. In the miscellaneous chapter "Let the King" of "Zhuangzi", Korea was harassed by the State of Wei and lost the war. The State of Wei asked South Korea to cede territory, and the King of Han was really If he didn't want to, he felt very painful. Then Zihuazi wanted to persuade the King of Han to cede the land, because the land ceded now could be counterattacked and taken back in the future

So he asked the King of Han, what is the relationship between fame, wealth, power and status? Body ratio, which one is more important? King Han said that of course the body is important; then he asked King Han, which one is more important than the body or the arms? The King of Han said, of course, health is important, so Zihuazi advised him, now you are sick and your arms have to be chopped off. Would you rather have power or arms? King Han said that life is more important than arms

This is Zhuangzi borrowing the old sage's thought to develop it. The world is important, and power and position are important. If there is no life, what is the use of the world? What is the use of power and position? However, people in the world still think that the world is important, and they spend their whole lives busy in order to gain fame and wealth, even if they can abandon their lives, why bother! Therefore, we came to the conclusion of "Love too much will cost a lot, and hoard too much will lead to death." This is to further tell us that we must understand the importance of life

Part 2: Contentment Don’t be humiliated, know how to stop, and you can last for a long time

Be content and don’t be humiliated. The humiliation mentioned here has the same meaning as the troubles mentioned in Buddhism. There is no standard for true blessing, but there is a self. The standard is self-satisfaction

For example, you can imagine a life scene like this. The weather is very hot. You only need a cup of herbal tea, half a bowl of cold noodles, a fan in hand, sitting under the shade of a tree, and shaking it from time to time. Take a couple of times and it’s indescribably comfortable and comfortable! Another example is when you meditate and practice concentration, you can think about nothing, feel neither joy nor pain, feel indescribably relaxed and at ease, and have inner peace. These are all manifestations of contentment in life, and dissatisfaction means that people's desires will always be endless. You will never be satisfied, so you will always live in trouble and pain

Know how to stop and never stop when life is just right. Just like what was mentioned in the previous chapter, when the work is completed and the body retreats, this is the way of heaven; Therefore, we must understand the meaning of being content and contented, so that we can not be bound by fame and wealth, and not be deceived by emotional gains and losses, so that our lives can be long-lasting
