What's it like to work and live in Africa?
A few years ago, China provided great assistance to African countries. I am a construction engineer by profession and have participated in aid projects in several African countries. I have worked in Uganda, Ethiopia, Rwanda and other African countries for some time.
What's it like to work and live in Africa?
My work and life experience in Uganda, an African country.
Uganda is a landlocked country in East Africa, which straddles the equator and borders Kenya in the east, Tanzania and Rwanda in the south, Congo in the west and South Sudan in the north, with a total land area of 2415.5 million square kilometers. Most of the territory is located in the East African Plateau, with; Known as the pearl of Africa.
Uganda is a polygamous country, and the status of women is very low. Women in Uganda are the private property of their parents before marriage. Parents must obey who they want to sell their daughter to, even if this person is very old.
When a woman gets married, she becomes the private property of her husband's family. Once her husband dies due to illness or other reasons, women are not allowed to remarry at will. Even if you want to remarry, you must marry your husband's brother first, and his brother will inherit the distribution.
Public security in African countries is generally not good. Kampala, the capital of Uganda, is much safer than other African neighbors. No matter day or night, walking on the streets of Kampala, you don't have to worry about safety at all, and there will be basically no theft and robbery.
Uganda's public security is good in several neighboring African countries. The local government has very strict control over national security. Working and living here, personal safety can be guaranteed. Be careful not to go to strange places, and try to go to crowded places as little as possible.
Uganda has a low per capita income. According to the statistics of the World Bank, Uganda's per capita GDP in 20 18 was only US$ 643, and its per capita daily income was only US$ 12, making it one of the countries with the lowest per capita income in the world.
Prices in Uganda are not high. After all, where is the income of ordinary people, the income is so low and the cost of living is so high, so it is really difficult for ordinary people to survive.
Compared with China, the cheapest food in Uganda is beef, mutton and bananas. The price of pork here is more expensive than beef and mutton. Banana is cheap because it is a local specialty and people here often eat it as a staple food.
Renting a house here requires only 200 ~ 300 yuan per month to rent a good house, with a monthly income of 3,000, which is regarded as a joke in China and is unattainable here.
People in Uganda can hardly afford rice. Most of them eat bananas. In Uganda, bananas can be made into various delicacies, including banana slices, banana pot stickers, banana rice paste, banana meatballs, banana soup and so on.
The climate in Uganda is a godsend. Uganda is different from other African countries. In most African countries, the weather is mainly hot. The temperature in Uganda is basically maintained at 22-25℃ throughout the year. There are no four seasons here, only dry season and rainy season.
You only need to wear a long-sleeved dress or short sleeves and a thin coat during the day all year round. Such a temperature is happy for the poor Ugandan people, so don't worry about not being warm.
Summary: I feel very happy working and living in Uganda. You don't have to be so timid to spend money here, and the pressure of life is much easier than in China.
My working and living experience in the African country Ethiopia.
Ethiopia is called the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and has a history of 3,000 years. By August of 20021year, the population of Ethiopia was1.1.200 million.
Ethiopia is also a member of the African Union, with its headquarters in Addis Ababa, its capital. Ethiopia's economy is dominated by agriculture and animal husbandry, with a relatively weak industrial base.
The average salary of Ethiopians is very low, and they can only earn a few hundred yuan a month. Those who can get a monthly salary of 2000 yuan are considered high-income people in the local area.
However, consumption in Ethiopia is not low and prices are not cheap. This country has a large population and relatively scarce material resources, which leads to Ethiopia's consumption level being higher than that of China's fourth-and fifth-tier cities. The prices of some rare items are much higher than those of first-tier cities in China. In China, a bottle of coke costs ten yuan for three yuan, while in China, the price of instant noodles in bags of two or three yuan is 25 yuan RMB.
My colleagues and I saw the price of Ethiopian cola and instant noodles for the first time, and we were deeply annoyed that we didn't bring more things from China.
Summary: In the African country of Ethiopia, there is still no pressure on work and life, and the high-income people here have not reached the minimum wage in China.
My work and life experience in the African country Rwanda.
Rwanda, formerly known as the Republic of Rwanda, is a sovereign country in central and eastern Africa. It borders Congo in the west, Tanzania in the east, Uganda in the north and Burundi in the south. The land area is about 26,338 square kilometers and the population is about120,000.
Rwanda is a polygamous country, and the proportion of women in Rwanda's population is much higher than that of men, which allows a man to marry three wives. It is allowed to continue genealogy, live according to paternal line and inherit property from cousin marriage and sister husband phenomenon.
Compared with Uganda and Ethiopia, the sanitary environment in Rwanda is much cleaner. In Kigali, the capital of Rwanda, the clean and tidy streets are free of rubbish, and the orderly arrangement of buildings and square urban planning have shocked me greatly, completely subverting my original impression of Africa's mess.
Rwanda has been implemented since 2005; The plastic ban prohibits the use of plastic bags with a thickness less than 100 micron. Many Rwandans have formed the habit of bringing their own shopping bags.
According to Rwandan law, it is forbidden to hold plastic bags, and littering in the street is also fined. Others describe Rwanda as; Japan in Africa, because this city has unparalleled cleanliness in other African countries.
The temperature in Rwanda is very high, which is the highest among the three African countries I have been to. The annual average temperature reaches 15 to 27 degrees. No one can wear a down jacket in winter, and the highest temperature in summer can reach more than 40 degrees. People with poor heat resistance are not suitable for living here.
In 202 1 year, Rwanda's GDP was $65,438+01300 million, and its per capita GDP was $876, about RMB 5,700. At that time, the average wage of the people was more than 400 yuan, and the monthly income of ordinary workers in big cities could reach 800- 1000 yuan. Personnel engaged in security, cleaning, cashier, etc. , the monthly income is RMB 800- 100.
Although Rwanda's per capita income is not high, local prices are not cheap. Our staple food here is 5-6 yuan RMB per catty, and the middle-class families can eat rice every day in the local area. The daily staple food of ordinary families is Sima cooked with corn flour.
Laoganma and instant noodles are sky-high here. A bottle of Laoganma needs more than 30 RMB, and a bucket of instant noodles needs more than 10 RMB. Grapes here are about 60-RMB a catty in 80 yuan, and green peppers and tomatoes are also1RMB a catty in 0 yuan. The price of imported goods in Rwanda is so high that ordinary people can't afford it.
The prices of fruits, vegetables and meat produced locally in Rwanda are very low. 1 yuan can buy 3-5 bananas, 1 yuan about a catty of mangoes. The price of local vegetables is mostly around 1 yuan a catty. A catty of fresh beef is only 12 yuan and a catty of fresh mutton 13 yuan.
The price here is just a word. Imported food is generally beyond the reach of families, and it doesn't cost much to eat casually if you are local.
With a monthly salary of over 10,000 yuan, you can become a winner in life here. Wherever you go, people will call you boss. 3000-5000 yuan can marry a wife. Here, you don't want a car or a house, and there is no difficult mother-in-law in the middle.
Summary: I didn't feel pressure when I was working and living in Rwanda. At that time, our group went to this country to help, with a monthly salary of more than 10 thousand, and life was quite comfortable.
The above is what I have seen and heard during my two years of working and living in Africa. If you plan to work or live in Africa, I hope reading this article will help you.
Write it at the end
The people of most African countries are very friendly to the people of China, which is mainly due to the free and selfless assistance provided by our government, and the development of African countries cannot be separated from our silent support.
Now the life of African people is getting better and better. I hope they can live an ideal life as soon as possible.
