What is a typhoon eye?

The typhoon eye is usually located in a circular area with an average diameter of about 40 kilometers in the center of the typhoon. Because the air around the typhoon eye rotates too much, it is difficult for outside air to enter the central area of the typhoon under the action of centrifugal force, so the typhoon eye area is like an isolated pipeline surrounded by a cloud wall. The air inside hardly rotates and the wind is weak. The area outside the typhoon eye 100 km is a stormy area.

Tropical cyclone is a strong weather system that occurs in tropical ocean. Like a vortex moving forward in a flowing river, it rotates rapidly around the center and moves forward with the surrounding atmosphere. Like temperate cyclones, the airflow in tropical cyclones in the northern hemisphere rotates counterclockwise around the center, while in the southern hemisphere it is the opposite.

The closer to the tropical cyclone center, the lower the air pressure and the stronger the wind. However, tropical cyclones with strong development, such as typhoons, have a calm and clear sky area at their center, that is, the typhoon eye. Typhoon is a large-scale rotating air mass with low central air pressure, and the surrounding air rotates rapidly counterclockwise around its center. The low-altitude airflow flows to the low-pressure center while rotating. The faster the airflow, the greater the wind speed.

The air outside the eye area of typhoon rotates to the center of low pressure, carrying a lot of water vapor, which rises around the eye area because it is not easy to enter, forming a large gray-black bloated and towering cloud layer and raining cats and dogs. There is a downdraft in the typhoon eye area, so the clouds disperse and twinkling stars can be seen at night. As shown in the satellite image of Typhoon rammasun No.5 this year, the weather in typhoon eyes is usually sunny to partly cloudy, so it appears as a small black dot on the satellite cloud image. But after the typhoon eye moves, the weather will become extremely bad again.

In the eyes of typhoons, there are often many birds. These countless seabirds, which were blown to the typhoon eye by the typhoon airflow, found a "safe haven" and sometimes flew far away with the typhoon.

Although the weather is fine in the center of the typhoon, the waves on the sea are very big. This is because the air pressure in the center of the typhoon is particularly low compared with its surroundings. Therefore, where the typhoon center lands, it will often set off high waves and cause great damage.

Internationally, the intensity is determined and classified by the maximum wind force near its center: typhoons with magnitude above 12 are generally called typhoons; 10- 1 1 is a strong tropical storm; Grade 8-9 is a tropical storm; Less than 8 is tropical depression.

The typhoon eye won't last long, about an hour or two, and the calm will gradually be replaced by another rage. Moreover, the illusion caused by a moment's pause will make you feel that the reloaded typhoon is fiercer, fiercer and fiercer, just like the ancient behemoth trying its best to destroy everything in the world.
