The original world record was 71.70 meters set by Cuban star Menendez at the 2005 World Championships in Helsinki. Spotakova improved the world record by 58 centimeters in one breath!
Spotakova was originally a heptathlete, and the javelin has always been her strength. Later, she simply switched to women's javelin. Spotakova has always performed wonderfully in the IAAF finals. In 2006 She broke the national record with 66.21 meters and won the gold medal. In 2007, she broke the national record with 67.12 meters and won the championship again. In 2008, Spotakova came to Stuttgart again, just to hit the world record in the "blessed place" and achieve three consecutive championships.
Spotakova shocked the world of athletics when she won the 2007 Osaka World Championships with 67.07 meters. In the 2008 Beijing Olympics, she fell behind the Russian star Abakumova in rainy and bad weather. Spotakova and host country player Obergefauer are the favorites to win the gold medal. Although the weather in Stuttgart was slightly cooler at 14 degrees Celsius, Spotakova entered the state quickly. In her first throw, she magically threw 72.28 meters, breaking the world record! Spotakova did not achieve another good result in the subsequent games, and finally won the championship and received a huge bonus of 130,000 US dollars (100,000 record-breaking bonus and 30,000 championship bonus). German Obergefauer won the runner-up with 63.28 meters, and another host player Neris won the bronze medal with 62.78 meters.
Since the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) moved the center of gravity of the women's javelin 3 centimeters forward toward the tip of the spear in 1999, which reduced flight performance, it has become extremely difficult to improve the world record. Only the famous Cuban athlete Menendez and Spotakova broke through the 71-meter mark, and Spotakova's feat of raising the world record by 58 centimeters is really jaw-dropping.
