Luzhou is located in the transition zone between the southern margin of Sichuan Basin and Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau, with low terrain in the north and high terrain in the south. There are river valleys, middle and low mountains and flat dams in the north, which is a land of plenty. The south is connected with Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau, belonging to the northern foot of Dalou Mountain, with low mountains, deep rivers and steep valleys, and rich forest and mineral resources. 240 meters to 520 meters above sea level. Hejiang county, the nine-story rock Yangtze River is 203 meters above sea level, which is the lowest point in the city. Xuyong county Luohanlin Yangziwan Liangzi main peak elevation1902m, the highest point.

Luzhou is located at the junction of the southern end of the parallel folded valley in southeast Sichuan and Dalou Mountain, which is the transition zone from the southern edge of Sichuan Basin to Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau. There are both hilly landform types in the basin and mountainous landform types around the basin, which belong to two secondary landform areas: the southern mountainous area of Sichuan Basin and the hilly mountainous area of Dalou Mountain in Wushan. The general characteristics are: high in the south and low in the north, with the Yangtze River as the erosion datum, gradually inclining from south to north, and the trend of the mountains is basically consistent with the direction of the tectonic line, showing east-west, northwest and northeast distribution. Generally, it is bounded by Jiang' an-Naxi-Hejiang line, and the south is middle and low mountains; On the north side, the anticline forms a long and narrow ridge in the northeast, and the rest are hills. The lowest point is Hejiang's nine-story Yangtze River estuary, 203 meters above sea level; The highest point is Liangzi of Fenshui Yang Long bend in xuyong county, with an altitude of1902m and a relative height difference of1699m. According to its characteristics, urban landforms can generally be divided into four types.

Shallow hills and wide valleys in the north: including Lu Xian County, Jiangyang District, Longmatan District, Naxi District and Hejiang County, the vast area north of the Yangtze River is an extension of the parallel fold belt in eastern Sichuan, belonging to the southern edge of the hilly area in the middle of Sichuan Basin, accounting for 18.6% of the total area. The altitude is mostly 250 ~ 400 meters, and the highest is Wanshou Mountain, with an altitude of 757 meters. Changgang Mountain is mostly forest land, shallow hills and wide valleys are mostly cultivated land, with more fields and less soil, which is the main agricultural area in the city.

Southern low mountain area: including most of Xuyong and Gu Lin counties, it belongs to the low mountain landform type area around the southern margin of Sichuan Basin, accounting for 38.6% of the total area. The exposed strata are mainly limestone and mudstone deposited in ancient marine facies, which are seriously eroded, forming a complex landform type with overlapping ravines, with an average elevation of about 800 meters. The highest is Bendeliangzi, Yang Long, Fenshui, xuyong county, with an elevation of 1902 meters. The mountainous areas are woodland, dry land and garden (tea garden); Trough dam is flat, mainly cultivated land, fertile soil and deep soil layer, and it is also one of the main agricultural areas in Luzhou.

Central hilly and low mountainous area: south of the Yangtze River and north of the southern hilly and low mountainous area are the central hilly and low mountainous area, including a small part of Lu Xian County, a part of Jiangyang District, most of Hejiang County and Naxi District, and the north of xuyong county and Gulin County, accounting for 4 1.5% of the total area. The elevation of the mountain is generally 500 ~ 1 1,000 meters, and the highest is Axe Mountain in Gulin County. The mountainous area is dominated by woodland, and the two existing virgin forests in the city-Fubaolin, Vitex negundo and Phyllostachys pubescens-are concentrated in this area. Hills are mainly cultivated land, followed by gardens (orchards and tea gardens).

Valley terraces along the Yangtze River: along the banks of large and medium-sized rivers such as the Yangtze River and Tuojiang River, several terraces are formed due to river alluvial accumulation, accounting for 1.3% of the total area. The first and second terraces are Quaternary modern river alluvium. The terraces are flat and wide, with a width of 500- 1000m, an altitude of less than 250m, a relative height difference of less than 30m and a thickness of15-20 m.. Mainly cultivated land, with deep soil layer and fertile soil, it is a concentrated distribution area of vegetables, sugar cane and longan in the city. The third and fourth terraces are Quaternary modern ice water sediments. Due to the erosion of flowing water, they only remain sporadically on the pedestals on both sides of the valley, with an altitude of 250 ~ 330 meters. Most of them are cultivated land and gardens, and the soil layer is deep, which is the concentrated production area of sugarcane and litchi in the city.
