Leave grief and sorrow behind composition

Mandela, South Africa's national fighter, was imprisoned on Robben Island, a desolate Atlantic island, by the white rulers for 27 years because he led blacks to oppose the whites' apartheid policy. Mandela was already old at the time, but the white rulers still brutally abused him like a young prisoner.

Robben Island is rocky and full of seals, snakes and other animals. Mandela was locked up in a "zinc room" and spent the day breaking rocks from the quarry into stone. Sometimes he has to go down to the cold sea water to fish for kelp, and sometimes he has to dig out limestone with picks and shovels in a large limestone field. Because Mandela was a wanted criminal, there were three guards guarding him. They were not friendly to him and always found various reasons to mistreat him.

However, after Mandela was released from prison and elected president in 1991, his move at the inauguration shocked the world. After introducing dignitaries from all over the world in turn, Mandela said that he was deeply honored to receive so many distinguished guests. But what he was most happy about was that the three prison guards who guarded him at Robben Island Prison were also present. Immediately, Mandela invited them to stand up and introduced them to everyone. Seeing the elderly Mandela slowly stand up and respectfully pay tribute to the three guards who had imprisoned him, all the guests present and even the whole world fell silent.

Mandela's open-mindedness and tolerance put the white people who abused him for 27 years to shame, and also awe-inspiring everyone present. Later, Mandela told his friends that when he was young, he had a bad temper and had a bad temper. It was his life in prison that taught him to control his emotions, so he survived. His years in prison gave him time and encouragement, and also taught him how to deal with the pain he encountered. He said that gratitude and tolerance often come from pain and suffering and must be trained through strong perseverance.

Mandela said that on the day of his release, he felt extremely calm: "When I stepped out of the prison door leading to freedom, I already knew that if I could not leave my grief and resentment behind, then I am actually still in prison.”
