According to the report, D-Star Fengyun No.3 is affectionately called "3D" by many R&D personnel. As the fourth member of China's second-generation polar-orbiting meteorological satellite Fengyun-3 series, D-Star Fengyun-3 will help people understand the future weather conditions earlier and reduce the economic and social impact of natural disasters.

According to experts, the D-star of Fengyun-3 will replace the B-star of Fengyun-3, which has been working in space for 8 years, and conduct networking observation with the C-star in the morning and afternoon, and "watch" with the A-star of Fengyun-4 launched at the end of last year at altitudes of 800 km and 36,000 km respectively, forming a new generation of high-low orbit meteorological satellite constellations in China.

Experts explained that the infrared hyperspectral atmospheric detector carried by Fengyun-3 D star adopts the most advanced detection technology in the world, and the number of spectral coverage channels has increased by more than 70 times compared with the previous instrument channels, greatly improving the support ability of medium and long-term numerical weather forecast in China, and advancing the forecast time limit of high-impact weather such as landing typhoon to 5 days to 7 days.
