Jinhae Cherry Blossom Festival

The Jinhae Port Festival (Sakura Festival) held here is the largest cherry blossom festival in South Korea in spring. The celebration period is generally from the end of March to the beginning of April every year.

There are more than 300,000 cherry blossoms in Zhenhai. Whether it’s the Tamsagawa River, where the Korean drama “Romance” was filmed, or the railroad, trains, or Cheongha Train Station where cherry blossoms shine, they are all cherry blossom viewing spots.

The origin of the Jinhae Port Festival

The "Jinhae Port Festival" was originally a celebration to commemorate the completion of the bronze statue of General Admiral Yi Sun-shin in Jinhae in 1953.

Although the memorial service at that time only held sacrificial activities, the scale and content of the activities expanded. The current "Jinhai Port Festival" mainly consists of the memorial ceremony for General Yi Sun-shin and the cherry blossom celebration.

Why do so many Yoshino cherry trees grow in small cities? This has a lot to do with Japan in the early period.

In the past era of Japanese rule, many Japanese soldiers were stationed in the military town of Zhenhai. As a symbol of Japan, cherry blossoms are widely planted in Zhenhai to relieve homesickness. After liberation, the oppressed Koreans were reminded of this history when they saw cherry blossoms, and many cherry blossom trees were cut down again.

However, in the 1960s, it was discovered that the Yoshino cherry blossoms that once filled Jinhae City actually originated from Jeju Island. This kind of cherry blossom is called "big cherry blossom".

So I ordered the cherry tree to be planted, and soon cherry trees were planted everywhere in Zhenhai. That's why it's called the "Sakura City."

External Transportation: How to Get to Jinhae

Busan-Jinhae

Take the subway in Busan to Sangsha Station, then walk out of the station to the nearby Busan West Coach Station, take a long-distance bus to Zhenhai Bus Station.

Every year during the cherry blossom season, there are many buses bound for Zhenhai. You can purchase tickets from automatic ticket machines or ticket windows. Recommend the automatic ticket vending machine, you can swipe your card directly! Super convenient~

Weather dressing

At the end of March and early April, Zhenhai is still relatively cold in the morning and evening, only a dozen degrees, but if it is sunny during the day, it is still very comfortable.
