Chifeng City, Inner Mongolia was once an important activity center of Qidan ancestral land and Mongolian nomads. For thousands of years, nomadic people have left a splendid and long-standing civilization here. However, due to the nomadic people's "living on water" and poor farming, the construction of cities is not as grand and huge as that of the Central Plains Dynasty. Therefore, there is no relatively perfect ancient city in Chifeng, only a few abandoned ancient city ruins, and almost no one comes to visit.

Liaoshangjing Site Liaoshangjing Site is located in the southeast suburb of Balinzuoqi, Chifeng City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, southeast of Lindong Town. It is the capital site of the Liao Dynasty under the ancient Khitan regime in China. It is the earliest and longest-lived ancient city in Liao Dynasty. At the same time, it is also the first capital city established by nomadic people in China on the northern grassland. Therefore, it is known as "the first capital of grassland". The ancient city of Shangjing, Liaoning, which is dominated by Khitan and Han nationality, has lived together for a long time, creating an incomparably splendid Khitan culture. It is the ancient city with the most historical value in Liao and Wujing.

According to the Records of Liao History and Geography, there were five capitals in the Liao Dynasty: "Taizong took the imperial capital as its capital, promoted Youzhou to Nanjing, changed Nanjing to Tokyo, Shengzong to Beijing, and Xingzongsheng to Yunzhou to Xijing, so five capitals were prepared." The imperial capital here is the Forbidden City in Beijing.

The ancient city of Shangjing is magnificent, with a circumference of 13.5 km. It is divided into two cities, with the imperial city in the north, where the Khitan royal family and Khitan people live. The south is the Han nationality, born for the Khitan Han nationality. According to the different characteristics of the Khitan people and the Han people, the Khitan Dynasty made different laws and regulations to bind the people in the city, which is the earliest "one country, two systems" in China.

There are three existing city gates at the Shangjing site in Liaoning Province, with a horse face on the wall and an urn outside the city gate. The emperor's palace is located in the middle of the imperial city.

Liaozhongjing Site Liaozhongjing Site is located at 15km west of Tianyi Town, Ningcheng County, Chifeng City, Inner Mongolia, on the north bank of Laoha River between blacksmith Ruth Township and Daming Town. The construction of Zhongjing in Liao Dynasty was relatively late. Generally speaking, in the 22nd year of Liao unification (A.D. 1004), Liao Dynasty was able to obtain a large number of ancient coins from Song Dynasty every year, which provided sufficient financial support for the construction of Zhongjing. Liao and Song maintained a relatively long-term peace, and such a political environment also provided social environmental protection for the construction of Beijing. Although Zhongjing was built late, its scale was determined according to the scale of Kyoto. Therefore, in many documents, Zhongjing is even regarded as the capital of the late Liao Dynasty.

Liaozhongjing site is rectangular, with a width of 4,200 meters from east to west and a length of 3,500 meters from north to south. There are gates in the middle of Nancheng, urns and turrets in the four corners, but no horse face is found. South Gate Zhuxiamen to Inner City South Gate Yangdemen 1, 400 meters. Near the south wall of the inner city, there is a remnant tower named "Daming Pagoda". The specific date of its construction is still unknown, but it is generally considered to be Liao Dynasty. Another low tower with the same shape as Daming Pagoda is now called "Little Tower", and "Daming Pagoda" is also called the north-south tower in central Liaoning and Beijing.

The site of Liaoraozhou Ancient City is located in the south of Yingtaogou Village, Xinchengzi Town, linxi county, Chifeng City, Inner Mongolia. The site is divided into two cities, east and west, the east city is big and the west city is small. The total length is 1 .400m. There is a 1 architectural site near the east gate of Dongcheng, and a1stone temple in the southwest of the city site, which is called "White Miao Zi" by local people.

The site of Songshan Ancient City in Liaoning Province is located in Chengzi Village, Chengzi Township, Chifeng City, Inner Mongolia, and is built on the north bank of the upper reaches of Banzhijian River. The architecture of the city site is divided into two parts: east and west. The two cities are the same size, with the east-west length of 1000m and the north-south width of 500m m. In the southwest corner, northwest corner and southeast corner of the ancient city, the remains of turret with a diameter of about 15 meters are preserved respectively, and the layout of the remains in the city is obvious. The three-dimensional building of Xicheng Palace is located in the city center, with a square abutment, with a residual height of about 1 m and a side width of150m.

Songshan County is one of the important counties in Zhongjing area of Liao Dynasty, where merchants gather. Its name comes from Pingsonglin in Tang Dynasty. With convenient transportation, it is the transportation hub from the Central Plains to Mobei and occupies an important position in the history of ancient transportation.

The site of Yongzhou Ancient City in Liaoning Province is located in Baiyintarasumu, Wengniute Banner, Chifeng City, Inner Mongolia. According to historical records, the ancient city of Yongzhou was built by Empress Dowager Xiao Chuo. This is the royal hunting ground and official pasture of Liao Dynasty. The place where the emperor spent the winter is called Dongsibo, which was built in 98 1 year.

The ruins of the ancient city are based on earth, and the city walls are basically preserved in the north-south direction. It is 520 meters long from north to south, 545 meters wide from east to west, with a wall base width of 10 meter and a debris height of 1-2 meter. There is a gate in the middle of the north-south wall, with a width of 10 meter, and a moat in the southwest of the city.
