The report "China Urban Environmental Protection" recently released by the State Environmental Protection Administration shows that up to now, China has been named as 47 national environmental protection model cities and 3 national environmental protection model cities, and Weihai model city group, Suzhou model city group and Changzhou model city group have appeared in Shandong and Jiangsu provinces. These 47 cities and three urban areas are Zhangjiagang, Dalian, Shenzhen, Xiamen, Weihai, Zhuhai, Yantai, Zhongshan, Kunshan, Laizhou, Rongcheng, Haikou, Shantou, Suzhou, Dagang District of Tianjin, Minhang District of Shanghai, Qingdao, Jiangyin, Daqing, Wendeng, Ningbo, Hangzhou, Changshu, Taicang, Zhaoyuan, Huizhou and Shaoxing. It is worth mentioning that more than half of the environmental protection model cities that have won the title are big cities, and small cities account for nearly 2/5, mostly prefecture-level cities and county-level cities. The report "China Urban Environmental Protection" points out that the establishment of an environmental protection model city has improved the city's taste and innovated the road of urbanization development. The concept of "well-off and healthy", "Jinshan Yinshan, green water and green hills" has gradually taken root in people's hearts, and a number of demonstration cities and urban areas with prosperous social civilization, sustained economic development, good environmental quality and rational utilization of resources have been created. In the review of 22 environmental protection model cities in 2004, seven cities including Zhangjiagang, Kunshan, Changshu, Qingdao, Weihai, Zhongshan and Xiamen became the first national environmental protection model cities to pass the review, and Shantou City was ordered to make rectification within a time limit. The establishment of a national environmental protection model city began in 1997, and the assessment system established for this purpose includes 25 assessment indicators, such as per capita GDP greater than 1 10,000 yuan, energy consumption per unit GDP lower than the national average, water quality compliance rate of centralized drinking water sources above 96%, urban gasification rate above 90%, and public satisfaction rate above 80%.
