Culture and Tourism in Saint Martin, Netherlands
The most famous places on the Dutch side of Saint Martin are nightlife, beaches, jewelry, Galagua Wanli, which is dominated by local rum, and drinks made by casinos. The French side of the island is famous for its nude beaches, clothes, shopping (including outdoor markets) and Caribbean cuisine from France and India. English and local dialects are the most commonly used languages.
Tourists often use hotels, guesthouses and villas.
Renting a car is the main way for tourists to live on the island. But traffic has become a big problem on the island. Marig, long-term traffic jams between Philip and the airport are common.
As the island is located in intertropical convergence zone, it is occasionally threatened by tropical storm activities in late summer and early autumn.
The neighboring islands include St. Barthelemi (French), Anguilla (British), Saba (Netherlands), St. yust (Netherlands) and St. Kitts and Nevis (independent, originally British). On a sunny day, you can see all the islands except Nevis from St. Martin.
