What kind of weather do mice like?
I personally think it’s the dim weather. The information I checked is: Rat eyes are very sensitive to light, but they are almost color blind, and they are good at climbing and swimming. Rats are mainly active in dark places and at night, but their shadows can also be seen during the day when they are looking for food or in large numbers. Ditch rats mainly hang out in drains, garbage rooms and other places; house rats are more active in ceilings, attics, basements and other places; and house rats hide in hidden places in the house, such as behind kitchen cabinets, inside drawers, storage rooms and other places. Rats have a very complex food habit, and their delicacies include cereals, rice, peanuts, biscuits, sausages, fish, etc. Rats have two pairs of fast-growing incisors, which can grow about 13 centimeters per year. Therefore, rats must constantly bite hard objects to wear down their incisors. Otherwise, their incisors will become too long and roll backwards, making it unable to find food and die. Therefore, many things in areas where rats are present, such as door frames, roofs, wires, etc., will be chewed by rats and leave sawdust. Some fire alarms are caused by rats chewing wires and short-circuiting them. There is a black stripe in the center of the back, extending from between the ears to the base of the tail. In a few areas, the black stripe is not obvious or does not exist. The abdominal hair is grayish white. The tail length is equivalent to the body length. They are widely distributed in plains, hills, mountains, lakes and depressions. There are many agricultural areas in the plains, and they can also be seen in some grasslands, forest edges and logging tracks. It likes to live in sunny, humid and near water places. In agricultural areas, it mostly inhabits farmland, field ridges, edges, mounds, weeds and firewood piles. In various farmlands, rice and bean gophers have the highest density. The number of rats in large field ridges is generally higher than that in small field ridges. However, if the large field ridges are made of sticky ditch bottom soil, it will be difficult to drill holes due to the hard soil. The situation is opposite. The caves are shallow and simple in structure, and can be divided into two categories; one is the dwelling cave, which has two or more entrances (front and back caves or sky caves), and there are hay or bean leaves in the enlarged part of the cave. The other type is a temporary hole, which has only one entrance and no nest inside. In warm or rainy seasons, the nests are shallow; in cold seasons, the nests are deep. Miscellaneous food habits. It mainly eats plant foods, mainly eating seeds, green parts of plants, roots, stems, etc. Rice, wheat, beans, sorghum, and sweet potatoes are all favorite foods. Food varies with the seasons. In autumn and winter, seeds are the main food, along with plant roots and stems. Predates insects and wheat seedlings in spring. In summer, it eats green parts of plants, fruits and insects. Monthly rainfall has a greater impact on autumn crop harvests and Apoderma agrarian population. Mainly active at night, most active at dusk and early morning, and less active during the day. It does not hibernate and is more active in spring and autumn. Migrate with natural conditions and food sources. When water is released or water accumulates in the fields after heavy rain, it will concentrate on the field ridges. During the rainy season, move to higher ground. The weather in summer is hot, the crops grow luxuriantly, and the shelter conditions are good. At this time, the grains are not yet mature, there are few food sources in the fields, and it is not the main breeding season. Therefore, most nests are built without digging holes and flow with the food sources. After autumn, the weather turns cold and it is the peak breeding season. Many nests are built to avoid the cold and give birth. At this time, the number of rat holes on field ridges and embankments increases significantly. After winter, there is a shortage of food sources in the fields, and there is no or very little food stored in the holes. Therefore, some rats move to nearby drying grounds and haystacks, and a few enter their homes. When spring gets warmer, it’s time to return to the fields. At water conservancy construction sites, if rodent control and rodent prevention work is not done well, rats can enter the work shed. According to surveys in some lake and depression areas in Anhui, the number of Apoderma agrarian rats is affected by rainfall and river water levels. When rainfall is heavy and water levels are high, the number of rats is small, and vice versa.
