Brief introduction of rhododendron

Rhododendron, also known as Yingshanhong and Shan Shiliu, is an evergreen or ordinary green shrub. The name of azalea comes from a legend. In ancient times, there was a cuckoo bird, which crowed day and night, coughing up blood, and dyed the flowers all over the mountain red, hence the name Rhododendron.

Rhododendrons usually bloom in spring, with 2-6 flowers per cluster. The corolla of rhododendron is funnel-shaped and rich in color, including red, reddish, apricot red, snow blue and white. Rhododendrons usually grow under sparse shrubs or pine forests in mountainous areas at an altitude of 500-1200 (-2,500) meters. Rhododendron is also an indicator plant to test whether the south-central and southwest parts of China are acidic soils.

Distribution of Rhododendron: Rhododendron is the provincial flower in China, Jiangxi, Anhui, Guizhou, and as many as seven or eight species are designated as city flowers in cities such as Changsha, Wuxi, Jiujiang, Zhenjiang, Dali, Jiaxing and Ganzhou.
