How to raise a turtle in cold weather

1. Constant temperature: The temperature cannot drop too fast, otherwise even the most tolerant turtle body is likely to die because it cannot withstand such drastic changes. Generally, the hibernating temperature for tortoises is 1-10°C. If the temperature keeps fluctuating, causing the tortoise to wake up, it will easily cause physical exhaustion of the tortoise. The ambient temperature during hibernation cannot drop below 5°C, otherwise it will die from excessive freezing. Keep the room temperature within a certain range and do not fluctuate too much.

Autumn is the season when turtles accumulate energy for the winter, so you can feed them more and better. . Moreover, in winter, it will stop eating or drinking and enter hibernation. Turtles need a lot of food before winter. If the turtle does not eat enough food, the turtle may starve to death in winter.

3. Warming: Generally, it is best to raise the hatchlings at a warm temperature when they are born in the same year; the turtle will stop eating when the water temperature reaches about 17 degrees. The specific situation will be different for each turtle. Weak and thin turtles can be raised under heated conditions in winter, with the environment temperature controlled at around 25°C and normal feeding management.

4. Cold protection: Especially for turtle seedlings, cold protection measures must be taken when the temperature is low in the morning and evening. It’s best to move them indoors to keep them warm.
