Taihuai Town is located in the central hinterland of Wutai Mountain Scenic Area and in the northeastern part of Wutai County. It starts from Beitai Yedou Peak in the north, west to Xitai Guayue Peak and Fanzhi County, and to the east is Taihang Mountain and Shizui Township of this county. It is bounded by Jingangku and Lingjing Township in the south. It is between 1500 and 3058 meters above sea level, between 117°29′ and 117°41′ east longitude, and between 38°51′ and 39°05′ north latitude. The town government is located at an altitude of 1,700 meters. The climate in the area is cold and humid, with an average annual temperature of 4.5°C, an annual extreme minimum temperature of -37°C, an annual extreme maximum temperature of 27°C, and an annual extreme minimum temperature of -44.5°C at Beitaiding. It is the coldest region in North China and has the "Roof of North China" called. The frost-free period is 90-110 days throughout the year, and the annual precipitation is 700-800 mm.

The town has a total land area of ??280,000 acres, including 180,793 acres of forest area (the main tree species are Pinus tabulaeformis, North China larch, poplar, and birch) and 3,016 acres of cultivated land. There are two major types of soil, one is mountain meadow soil and the other is mountain brown soil. The crops grown are mainly potatoes, oats, broad beans, peas, and corn. The total grain output is 602 tons. There are 99 families, 354 genera, and 595 species (28 varieties) of plants in the area, including 483 species of herbaceous plants and 112 species of trees and shrubs. There are 208 species of animals, including 142 species of birds, belonging to 16 orders and 36 families; 41 species of mammals, belonging to 6 orders and 19 families. Local products include Taiwanese mushrooms, bracken, day needles, bitter herbs, Taiwanese ginseng, Jianglongmu, Prajna Spring mineral water, etc.

The town has 22 administrative villages and 52 natural villages, with a total population of 10,625 people. The Han, Mongolian, Tibetan, Manchu and Tujia people are scattered in rural areas, temples and reception units; among which the agricultural population is 6,786 people, the total number of households is 2313, and the total labor force is 2300.
