Zhangjiajie has a mild climate, located in the northern part of mid-latitude, and belongs to the prototype of monsoon humid climate in mid-subtropical mountainous areas. Therefore, there is abundant rainfall (the average precipitation over the years is 1400 mm), abundant sunshine, long frost-free period and short severe cold period, and the annual average temperature is about 16.6℃.
The stratum in Zhangjiajie city is complex and diverse, which has created the local characteristic landscape. There are mainly mountains, karst, hills, hills and plains. The mountainous area accounts for 76% of the total area, among which the most distinctive is the rare seasonal sandstone peak forest landform in the world. The city is high in the northwest and inclines to the southeast along the Lishui River.
1August, 988, Zhangjiajie Wulingyuan Scenic Area was listed as a national key scenic spot; 65438-0992 Wulingyuan Scenic Area, which consists of Zhangjiajie National Forest Park and other three scenic spots, has been listed on the World Natural Heritage List by UNESCO. In February 2004, it was included in the first batch of world geoparks. In 2007, it was listed in the first batch of national 5A tourist attractions in China.
