Don't follow the navigation! This road is near and fun to Laozhanggou.
In Laozhanggou, the mountains overlap, the valleys are vertical and horizontal, and the streams are everywhere. The scenery is very beautiful. This time, we started from Beijing and crossed Laozhanggou. This article will explain the road conditions and suitable vehicles with our self-made road map.
at the beginning of April, we started from Haidian district, Beijing at around 7 pm, and after a long journey of more than 2 kilometers, it took more than 4 hours to arrive at Sijihong Farmhouse, the nearest to Laozhanggou, in the middle of the night. The vehicle we were driving was a 1999 Mitsubishi Pajero V73, which was basically smooth all the way without any problems.
In this journey, the expressway and mountain road each account for about 1 kilometers, which are basically paved roads, and the last 4 kilometers are unpaved roads, that is, dirt roads, but they are generally flat, but if you drive at night, you should pay more attention to safety.
The next day's trip is from the farmhouse to the next point in Laozhanggou, but don't follow the navigation. According to this shortcut we take, it saves a lot of time than navigation, and this road goes upstream along a stream between valleys. In summer, there will be very beautiful scenery, which is very suitable for go on road trip, and the requirements for vehicles are not high, just ordinary SUV models.
This section of the road is mainly paved with dirt roads with large and small stones, which are generally flat.
There are many roads that look like desert, but the sand is actually a thin layer, and it is not difficult.
The water in the stream is very shallow now, but in the rainy season, the stream may become a big river, so be sure to pay attention to the local weather and ask the local residents about the road conditions before leaving.
when the current is fast, the river is wide and the bottom of the river cannot be seen clearly, remember to get off the bus and observe clearly before passing, and avoid large stones and deep pits.
when you encounter this kind of ice with deep rut marks, you must not walk along the rut marks, otherwise the chassis will be easily carried on it. The correct way is to ride on the rut marks and keep driving smoothly at a low speed to avoid slipping.
look how deep it is!
The only fork in this road is here. In winter, three rut marks can be clearly seen, and the middle and right roads finally converge together, which is the correct route. We didn't take the road where the vehicle is in the above picture, because according to the satellite map, it leads to the deep mountains and is in the opposite direction to where we are going, so it is the wrong route!
After driving out of this ice field, the journey will officially end. Generally speaking, it is not difficult. Ordinary household SUVs can do it, and ordinary tires can handle most of the roads. However, in some places with more gravel, if the speed is too fast, there is still a great risk of puncture, so if you really don't want to change off-road tires, remember to drive slowly.
continue driving along the asphalt road for about 2 meters, and you can see a valley on your right hand side. The entrance of the valley is the next point of Laozhanggou.
drive in from the entry point, and you will soon see the iconic "big foot"!
The overall difficulty of Laozhanggou is actually not great, but there are several challenging sections, and it is basically impossible for ordinary household SUVs to pass.
For example, there is no way around this continuous cross axis.
There is also this long-distance uphill road, the inclination angle is over 3 degrees.
The famous Hero Slope, the whole road is covered with gravel, and the maximum inclination angle even exceeds 4 degrees, so don't try it easily for non-off-road vehicles.
You can choose to go back the same way after successfully climbing the summit, or follow our route: return to Beijing after arriving in datan town. Generally speaking, if you want to walk the whole journey, ordinary household SUVs or cars are basically out of the question, but if you don't climb the heroic slope, it is still a very pleasant experience to have a camp in this valley, and the virgin forest here is very Nordic, which is really worth visiting.
