What does ham radio mean?

Ham is called ham in Chinese, which also means radio enthusiasts.

According to the Japanese magazine CQ, in the May issue of 199 1, an article written by JR8EZM Tetsuo Kawakawa mentioned the story of an early amateur radio station:

As early as 1908, when amateur radio was invented, Harvard University in the United States had an amateur radio club with Elbert as its member. Hyman, Bob Almey and Peggy Murray.

At first, they used the surnames of three people as the call sign of the radio station, namely Hyman Al may murray. Later, they thought the name was too long, and their hands were sore after posting the call sign, so they changed it to the first two letters of the surname and became ham.
