How to water garlic in winter

Garlic needs watering in winter. However, due to the cold weather, if garlic is not well managed, it will easily lead to a decline in yield and quality. However, after garlic is watered with frozen water, it is not necessary to water it again, because the water cannot penetrate in time after the soil is frozen, and it is easy to freeze garlic seedlings.

Garlic will die if it is not properly watered in winter, because the root system of garlic is shallow, and the root length is generally 10- 15 cm. If the water is watered in winter when the temperature is low, the water will freeze, and the root system of garlic will be easily injured or even killed if it is frozen for a long time.

How to fertilize garlic in winter

Fertilization method: garlic is generally applied in strips and water in winter, and the fertilization ditch is dug into strips along the line to apply farmyard manure. If chemical fertilizer is applied, it needs to be dug, and after fertilization, a layer of soil should be covered and properly watered.

Note: Don't use too much fertilizer. If too much fertilizer is applied, the fertilizer will produce too much heat and the seedlings will burn. Generally, it is enough to apply about 2000 kilograms of farmyard manure per mu. If it is chemical fertilizer, it is about 15kg.

Matters needing attention in watering garlic in winter

Water after sowing: in autumn, water garlic immediately after sowing, water it for the second time near emergence, and water it for the third time when the topsoil is dry according to the actual situation after emergence.

Water in early winter: garlic should be watered with freezing water when the soil freezes in early winter, and covered with straw and fallen leaves after watering to prevent cold and freezing.
