Karakoram highway, the road to Yundian, is a miracle of life in full bloom.

The rising sun, warm sunshine through the branches, gently sprinkled on the white tombstone.

In the early morning, a kind old man began to clean the day. He carefully cleaned every corner of the cemetery, carefully brushed away the dust on tombs and monuments, and kept the quiet and solemn cemetery spotless. The old man's name is ali ahmed, and this is the place where he dedicated his life-China Martyrs Cemetery in the northern Pakistani city of Gilgit. In this cemetery, 88 Chinese builders died to help build karakoram highway.

Back to 1966, a cannon shot on the Pamirs opened the prelude to the arduous road construction of Chinese and Pakistani workers for more than ten years.

As we all know, karakoram highway starts from Kashgar, Xinjiang, China in the north, passes through Karakorum Mountain, Hindu Kush Mountain, Pamir Plateau and the western end of Himalayan Mountains, passes through the Hongqilafu Pass, a border port between China and Pakistan, and reaches Takot, a city in northern Pakistan in the south. The complicated and changeable plateau geological environment along the way makes the road construction face unprecedented difficulties and obstacles.

At the beginning of construction, large-scale construction equipment could not be used, and it could only be carried by the hands of the construction workers. Construction workers carry blasting equipment, simple materials, lanterns and sappers' shovels, climb the cliff, sleep in the wind and work day and night. The road to construction is full of dangers, falling rocks and landslides may happen at any time, and there is a cliff below you. If you are not careful, you will fall and die. A construction worker was climbing up with a steel pipe on his shoulder with his colleagues. He fell and died. He was the first martyr to build roads, and his name was Zhao Hongqi.

The winter in the plateau is very long, from 10 to May of the following year, the temperature is as low as MINUS 30-40 degrees, and there are often snowstorms all over the sky. In such extremely cold weather, it is very difficult to survive, and construction is even more difficult. However, the construction workers never stopped, but kept going, opening sidewalks, blasting, transporting earth and stone, building bridges, repairing open holes, digging culverts, building tunnels, crossing the river on ice, and repairing the road to Hongqilafu.

Hongqilafu is famous for the sight of "snow piled up in Qian Shan, and snow overwhelmed thousands of mountains". It's really difficult to build roads here.

In this barren life forbidden zone, the construction workers experienced the flood that broke out upstream. The flood surged, and the construction workers quickly avoided danger, but they were trapped, traffic was blocked, and food and firewood were scarce. They just burned wooden boards and drank porridge to get through the trapped days. Almost all the newly built bridges and roadbed were destroyed, and all the hard work went up in smoke.

In this terrible valley of death, construction workers suffered a serious avalanche. Snow waves fell from the sky, instantly filling the valley, devouring construction equipment, vehicles and personnel, or hitting the top of the mountain, while the roads built were submerged under the vast snow, and all the hard work was gone.

Construction workers worked hard all the way, never flinched in the face of various geological disasters, went forward bravely, and even sacrificed their precious lives. Ahmed joined the road accident rescue team when he was young. During a landslide rescue, Ahmed witnessed the death of 25 construction workers in China. Ahmed's soul was strongly shocked, and his admiration for Chinese workers came to life, which is why he became the grave keeper of the cemetery of Chinese workers without regrets.

Karakoram highway, which stretches for thousands of miles, was finally built with the unremitting efforts of Chinese and Pakistani construction workers. It is a symbol of the profound friendship between China and Pakistan, a great victory for the Chinese and Pakistani people, a true portrayal of their fearless spirit, and a great miracle of their life in full bloom!
