Yichun is named after Yichun River, a tributary of the Tang Dynasty. Yichun, Mongolian "Yi Xun", means "Nine Numbers". In Qing dynasty, it was under the jurisdiction of Qiqihar deputy governor and Hulan deputy governor. At the end of the Qing Dynasty and the beginning of the Republic of China, it was placed under the jurisdiction of Tangyuan County and was a primitive forest area.
