Qinghai Lake is called "Cuowenbu" (meaning "blue sea") in Tibetan. Located in the northeast of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, Qinghai Province, it is the largest inland lake and saltwater lake in China. It is formed by the fault subsidence among Datong Mountain, Sun Moon Mountain and Nanshan Mountain in Qilian Mountain and Qinghai Province.

With the passage of time and the decrease of resources, the output of naked carp is decreasing year by year. Naked carp swim back to the source river from June to July every year to lay eggs, which provides rich food conditions for fish-eating birds. 1964, the state listed Qinghai Lake as a protected object, and Qinghai naked carp as an important and precious aquatic economic animal.
