Gao Youxi’s scientific research

In Gao Youxi’s more than 50 years of scientific career, the needs of the country have been his research direction. At the beginning of the founding of the People's Republic of China, due to the needs of war activities such as resisting U.S. aggression and aiding Korea, he studied typhoon activities and forecasting issues. In addition to making forecasts, he published many papers and compiled and published China's first book with Zeng Youen in 1957. The typhoon path atlas "Typhoon Path Map and Some Statistics", and Gu Zhenchao published "Typhoon Research"; in order to break the imperialist economic blockade of New China and solve China's rubber shortage problem, he compiled and published it with Xu Shuying and Xu Mengying in 1954 He published the book "Climate of Hainan Island", which discussed the problem of rubber planting and rubber production in Hainan Island from the perspective of climate. He made a detailed description and comparison of the climate conditions of Hainan Island, pointed out the problems of rubber planting and rubber production, and proposed the use of different The microclimate of the region suggested using strengths and avoiding weaknesses; in 1956, in order to understand the water regime of the Yellow River and the Sanmenxia Reservoir design, he studied the precipitation problem in the Yellow River Basin. He, Ye Duzheng and Yang Jianchu edited and published the monograph "Precipitation in the Yellow River Basin" and Several atlases and information on precipitation and heavy rains in the Yellow River Basin; while working on precipitation in the Yellow River Basin, he considered that East Asia and South Asia are world-famous monsoon areas. The strength of the monsoon and the sooner or later it comes will definitely affect the precipitation in this region. Long-term prediction of precipitation should be based on the formation and change patterns of monsoon based on the changing distribution of rainfall. Therefore, monsoon research has been carried out and remarkable achievements have been made.

In order to change the face of drought in northwest China, with the support of the Institute of Geophysics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Gansu Provincial Party Committee, Gao Youxi led two of his students to Lanzhou in May 1958 and borrowed a Starting from a desk, it has been difficult to move through the Lanzhou Geophysical Research Laboratory of the Institute of Geophysics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Lanzhou Branch of the Institute of Geophysics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Institute of Cloud Physics and Glacier and Permafrost of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Lanzhou Institute of Geophysics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the National Earthquake The Meteorological Company of the Lanzhou Earthquake Brigade of the Bureau was in the early stages of entrepreneurship, establishment and adjustment, and finally the Lanzhou Institute of Plateau Atmospheric Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences was established in April 1974. During this period, Gao Youxi was the general academic leader of the Atmospheric Science Department, strategizing and working hard on the establishment and adjustment of institutes and offices, the construction of research teams, and the determination of subject directions. He cherishes talents and has cultivated a group of academic backbones by sending them out for training (including studying abroad) and training at the institute. He has trained or co-trained nearly 30 doctoral and master's students. Under the leadership of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and with the strong support of the Institute of Atmospheric Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the China Meteorological Administration, the former Lanzhou Plateau Institute of Atmospheric Physics has gradually formed a system consisting of plateau weather dynamics, artificial hail prevention, plateau climate, radiation climate, and boundary It has a research team composed of multiple disciplines such as atmospheric physics, atmospheric electricity, and atmospheric environment. Among them, atmospheric electricity is the only characteristic discipline in the country, and lightning physics and lightning induction research have ranked among the international advanced ranks. The former Lanzhou Plateau Institute of Atmospheric Physics has been able to successfully implement some large-scale multi-arms projects such as the "1979 Qinghai-Tibet Plateau Meteorological Science Experiment" and the "Heihe Area Earth-Atmosphere Interaction Observation Experiment", a major project of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the National Fund Committee of China-Japan Cooperation. The large-scale project research tasks of the Corps' joint operations have achieved nearly 20 important results from the state and the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and have become one of the important bases for atmospheric science research in China. It has a doctoral program in atmospheric physics and a master's program in meteorology and atmospheric physics. It continues to provide a large number of talents to relevant units across the country, including many generals. Gao Youxi also had a series of masterpieces in the field of arid climate, but because he was busy with organizational leadership work in his later years and was ill, he was unable to publish relevant monographs.
