What is the origin of Maitreya?

Maitreya Buddha, called Aydo Bodhisattva, is the successor of Buddha Sakyamuni.

Maitreya is a transliteration of Sanskrit Maitreya, which means cishi. This is the name of the Bodhisattva, which is a layer below the Buddha.
