Performance characteristics of dual-mass flywheel

Dual-mass flywheel is the best vibration isolation and damping device in automobiles at present. Therefore, it has been widely promoted in Europe since the 1990s, extending from limousines to intermediate cars, which has a lot to do with Europeans' preference for manual gears and diesel vehicles. As we all know, the vibration of diesel engine is bigger than that of gasoline engine. In order to reduce the vibration of diesel engine and improve the ride comfort, many diesel passenger cars in Europe now adopt dual-mass flywheel, which makes the comfort of diesel vehicles equal to that of gasoline locomotives. In China, FAW-Volkswagen's Bora manual transmission car also took the lead in adopting dual-mass flywheel.

The main features are as follows:

(1) Torsional vibration isolation: The dual-mass flywheel almost completely isolates the torsional vibration of the engine crankshaft from the gearbox, especially it can completely filter out the imbalance in the low-speed region of the engine. This makes it possible to reduce idle speed and make the engine mainly run in low speed area, thus improving fuel economy and reducing vehicle noise.

(2) Gear box load reduction

Because the dual-mass flywheel reduces the imbalance of the input shaft, the load and stress of the gearbox are also reduced. The dual-mass flywheel almost completely eliminates the additional torque of high-frequency transmission in traditional systems. Because the gearbox reduces the extra load, it can transmit higher static torque. This is especially true in diesel engines with dual-mass flywheels.

(3) the crankshaft load is reduced

Because the primary mass of the dual-mass flywheel is much smaller than the traditional transmission system, the moment of inertia of the flywheel is very small, and the bending load of the crankshaft can be ignored by the secondary mass, thus reducing the dynamic load exerted on the crankshaft by the moment of inertia brought by the flywheel moment of inertia.

(4) The shifting performance is improved.

Because the dual-mass flywheel effectively isolates the vibration of the engine, lubricating oil with lower viscosity can be used in cold weather to obtain better gear shifting effect; In addition, the cancellation of the clutch shock absorber also reduces the force on the synchronizer, making the shifting force smaller.

In addition, due to the small load and long service life, the overall size is smaller than that of the transmission clutch.
