Personal life

Shaoguan Daily reported on September 22, 2009:

A few days ago, the TV feature film "Life of Painting and Calligraphy in Wheelchair" by Weng Yuanji's painter Zeng appeared, which aroused strong repercussions after being broadcast on his hometown TV station. People deeply admire his perseverance in overcoming difficulties and persisting in the research and creation of calligraphy and painting.

From 65438 to 0995, the operation of lumbar disc herniation failed and he was forced to spend the rest of his life in a wheelchair. He was depressed in the face of the sudden blow. Later, with the encouragement of relatives and friends, I finally regained my brush, practiced my favorite calligraphy and painting, and fought tenaciously against the disease.

Born in 1943, he has been interested in calligraphy and painting since childhood under the guidance of his father and the influence of his uncle. When studying, he was the most beautiful "scholar" in the school; In the army and back home, he engaged in dancing and writing, such as film screening and secretarial work. He never leaves his pen, but he is busy with his work and can't settle down to study painting and calligraphy. After leg disability, mobility is inconvenient and activities are limited. On the contrary, living in a shack gives him more time to meditate on posts and smear rivers and mountains.

Because of the inconvenience of movement, I encountered many unimaginable difficulties in practicing calligraphy and painting. Because he can only sit in a wheelchair, the angle of view is very low. When Ceng Gang began to practice calligraphy, it was difficult to master not only the font size, but also the layout of the whole work. Later, his family specially made a bamboo pole for him, so that he could push the bamboo pole to move the paper when writing, and hang the work on the wall for inspection after writing. When writing rose, he often drew his bow left and right, pushing paper with one hand and writing with the other; When the weather is hot, he is even more busy and sweating. It is more difficult to write large-scale works, because calligraphy works pay attention to charm and should be done in one go. When creating works with many words, I used to be afraid to drink more water. One of the reasons is that it is inconvenient to go to the toilet. More importantly, when writing works, the charm is incoherent and inconsistent. Once, he wrote a model of more than 700 words, and he wrote the last two words. His paralyzed lower limbs suddenly cramped, and his brush fell on the work that was about to be completed. An afternoon's hard work was wasted at this moment.

The great charm of calligraphy and painting made him forget his illness and selfishness, and his skills improved day by day, which made him regain his confidence and optimism. He is proficient in all kinds of calligraphy, especially official script. His running script is smart, coordinated in thickness, matched in size and smooth in paper; His official script is heavy and steady, dignified and elegant, with vigorous and handsome brushwork. Everything comes to him who waits. Zeng's works have been published in Nanfang Daily and Yangcheng Evening News. In order to learn from others and broaden his horizons, he began to go out of the studio to participate in social activities. There are calligraphy and painting exhibitions in Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai and other places, and he tries to see them. People sigh, cheerful and optimistic once came back.

In 2002, Zeng's personal painting and calligraphy exhibition was held in Humen, Wengyuan and Shaoguan, Dongguan. Wherever he goes, people pay close attention to him. Many viewers were moved by his spirit of fighting diseases and asked him to sign autographs to show his respect and encourage himself.

He once wrote in one of his couplets: "The heirloom is loyal and honest, and he is frank." Kindness, simplicity, enthusiasm and charity. A few years ago, he was hired as a tutor for calligraphy lovers by a power plant. He devoted himself wholeheartedly to this social work, and never missed a class in the heat and cold. There was a typhoon and heavy rain, and the students thought he would not come. They were about to disperse when they found him wearing a raincoat and rocking his wheelchair in front of everyone. This scene shocked everyone, and after the students came to their senses, there was prolonged applause in the classroom. In applause, some students came forward to help him take off his raincoat; Some students quickly helped him push the wheelchair.

The students did not live up to Lao Zeng's hard work. The calligraphy and painting lovers he tutored left their marks in Guangdong and even the whole country. In this regard, I was very pleased. He said that he used to practice calligraphy and painting just to forget his illness, pass the time and soothe his soul; Now we can give full play to our skills, do something useful for the society, inspire young people to pursue their dreams through personal experience, inherit and carry forward the traditional culture of China, and finally realize the value of life in wheelchairs.

Looking back on the life of wheelchair painting and calligraphy for more than ten years, I once said that being sick is terrible and torturing, but life without pursuit and dreams is even more terrible. Calligraphy and painting are crutches and sustenance for my dignified and calm life in the rest of my life, and they have also become an important yardstick and benchmark to reflect the value of my life.
