Regarding the weather during the Olympic Games, Jiang Xiaoyu said that when bidding for the Olympic Games, it is planned to be held in late July; After the successful bid for the Olympic Games, the Olympic Organizing Committee, with the approval of the International Olympic Committee, adjusted the holding time of the Olympic Games according to the weather conditions in Beijing, and finally determined it as August 8-August 24, 2008. After studying the relevant meteorological data in Beijing, this period of time meets the meteorological requirements for hosting the Olympic Games.

"At the same time, relevant departments are also studying various measures to minimize the impact of weather factors on the Olympic Games. The meteorological department and relevant departments have done a lot of work in this regard. " Jiang Xiaoyu said, for example, the relevant departments have studied the precipitation probability on August 8th every year in Beijing for 50 years, the precipitation probability in recent 30 years and the precipitation probability in recent 10 years. Besides August 8th, we also studied the weather in early autumn every year. Generally speaking, the probability of precipitation on August 8th is in the range of 30%-40%, and 75% is light rain, while on August 8th near 10, 100% is no rain or light rain. When a reporter asked about the police force for the Olympic Games, Wang Wei said that when bidding for the Olympic Games, it was envisaged that there would be 20,000 police officers, plus 1 1,000 professional security personnel and volunteers. At present, BOCOG is working out a detailed security plan, which will be gradually improved with the adjustment of BOCOG plan.

"The plan for the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympic Games is expected to be finalized by the end of 2006." Jiang Xiaoyu said at the meeting that in April this year, BOCOG confirmed the main staff of the opening and closing ceremonies, and three artists with profound artistic attainments, Zhang Yimou, Zhang Jigang and Chen Weiya, served as the general director and deputy director respectively. Wang Wei revealed at the meeting that there are 203 national and regional Olympic committees planning to participate in the 2008 Olympic Games, one more than the last Athens Olympic Games. It is understood that this means that the Beijing Olympic Games will probably become the Olympic Games with the largest number of participating countries and regions in history.

■ Regarding the competition time, the swimming final time has not been finalized.

At the meeting, a reporter asked: "Recently, some media reported that the finals of the swimming and gymnastics events of the Beijing Olympic Games have been confirmed to be held in the morning of Beijing time. Is the Beijing Olympic Games satisfied with this arrangement? " In this regard, Wang Wei said that the competition time of swimming, gymnastics and other events is still in the final study.

It is understood that as the exclusive North American TV broadcaster of the 2008 Olympic Games, the National Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) made a request to the International Olympic Committee a few months ago to change the finals of swimming and gymnastics, which are deeply loved by Americans, from the evening of Beijing time to the morning to facilitate watching. However, the proposal was firmly opposed by Australia and some European countries.

Wang Wei said that the preparations for the Paralympic Games will be promoted simultaneously. At present, the preparation and organization mechanism for the Paralympic Games has been established, the construction of barrier-free facilities in cities has been accelerated, and the market development plan for the Beijing Paralympic Games has been launched. 22 Chinese and foreign enterprises have become partners or sponsors of the Paralympic Games. The mascot of the Paralympic Games will be released on September 6th this year.
