In 762 BC (the fourth year of Qin Wengong), Chencang City was built, located in the east of today's Baoji City.

In the second year of Tang Zhide (757), Chencang County was renamed Baoji County with the cry of the stone chicken on Chencang Mountain (now Jifeng Mountain).
