Why is Yancheng in Jiangsu called "Yancheng"?

There is a saying in China from ancient times to the present that "the salt of the Huaihe River is salty all over the world". The Huaihe River here is the Huaihe River basin before today, and Yancheng, Jiangsu Province is just south of the Huaihe River. The place where salt is bound is called Huainan Salt. East of Yancheng is the west coast of the Pacific Ocean, where the ancestors extracted salt by boiling the sea.

In the Eastern Jin Dynasty, it was renamed Yancheng, which was the only city named after salt in China. This name has always been with people in this land and has been used to this day.

Salt industry was an important economic source of the dynasty in ancient times and has always been a special cause of the country. In the Tang Dynasty, the salt produced here was the second in the country, and the economic productivity from here supported the development of the whole country.

Fan Zhongyan, everyone must know him. He was appointed as a salt official in Yancheng. He also presided over the construction of a "Fan Gong Dike" in Yancheng to prevent the tide. There are more than a dozen salt fields around Fangongdi, and the salt they produce is continuously transported to the whole country along the waterway. The profit of salt is extremely high, but there are still many people who take risks to sell illicit salt, and the court has also used various methods to crack down.

After the founding of New China, the state also set up a number of salt fields here, and the means of salt production also included cooking sea salt, which developed into advanced mineral salt, and mineral salt also showed the function of replacing traditional sea salt.

Salt in Yancheng has not only created a glorious history, but also the salt culture formed here is only praised by us. Because the history of salt is the history of Yancheng, the research derived from salt is called white culture.

At present, Yancheng's economic development momentum is still strong, and development cannot rely solely on salt. Of course there are no mountains here, but most of them are wetlands and wetland parks.
