How can climate knowledge serve climate action?

Climate action still has a long way to go. With the development of science and technology, people have gradually accumulated a wealth of climate knowledge, and realized that climate has had a profound impact on grain production, water resources security, ecological environment protection, major engineering construction, urban planning and social and economic development.

Over the years, meteorological, forestry, environmental protection, water conservancy, agriculture and other departments, universities and scientific research institutions in our province have carried out various work around the construction and protection of the ecological environment. Since 2000, the provincial government has begun to implement the strategy of building an ecological province. In order to improve the ecological environment in the west, a series of ecological projects have been implemented, such as returning farmland to grassland, returning farmland to humidity, ecological water replenishment, igniting fire, restoring habitats, and connecting rivers and lakes. According to the latest assessment, the ecological quality of the western region of our province has improved overall. The increase of precipitation is the natural cause of ecological improvement in the west, and ecological construction and protection are the man-made causes of ecological improvement in the west. Although the degree of local desertification is still increasing, the overall development trend of desertification in western China has been curbed to some extent. Since 20 10, the number of annual acid rain stations in the whole province has obviously decreased, and the annual acid rain frequency has obviously decreased, and it has not reached the acid rain level for five consecutive years. In 20 14 years, the concentrations of PM2.5 and PM 10 have decreased, but the meteorological conditions for pollutant diffusion are generally deviated, and there are still many calm weather, so there is still a long way to go to improve air quality. Take active actions to deal with climate change.

The key to coping with climate change and reducing climate risk lies in energy conservation and emission reduction. From cherishing every drop of water and electricity to protecting every tree and grass in a forest, everyone should choose a more responsible lifestyle, starting from the little things around them and practicing climate protection actions bit by bit.

Meteorological departments should play an important role in climate action. First, carry out scientific research on the adaptation of ecological environment to climate change and disaster prevention and reduction, and establish eco-environmental meteorological services to provide scientific evaluation and decision-making reference for governments at all levels and relevant institutions. Second, give full play to the important role of climate prediction, and guide relevant departments and the public to take precautions and actively respond to minimize losses before the arrival of extreme weather and climate events. The third is to carry out climate assessment and climate feasibility demonstration. In view of the diversity of climate in our province, climate zoning is mainly agricultural climate zoning and meteorological disaster risk zoning. Fourth, relying on the construction of the shadow center in Northeast China, we will carry out weather modification operations in an all-round way, change seasonal and phased artificial precipitation enhancement operations into annual artificial precipitation enhancement operations, develop cloud and water resources in the air, and reduce the threat of drought caused by climate change. Fifth, do a good job in the meteorological service guarantee for the scientific development and utilization of climate resources such as wind energy and solar energy.

The theme of this year's World Meteorological Day is "Climate Knowledge Serving Climate Action". This theme comes down in one continuous line with China's ancient philosophical thought "the unity of knowledge and action". "Doing is the beginning of knowing, and knowing is the achievement of doing". Only by using scientific climate knowledge to serve climate action can we really prevent and reduce the adverse effects caused by meteorological disasters and build a beautiful home.
