Xiping belongs to subtropical humid monsoon climate, with high temperature and rainy summer, mild and little rain in winter and four distinct seasons. The annual average temperature is between 16- 19℃, and the annual precipitation is between1700-2100 mm. The terrain of Xiping is obviously different, the ground fluctuates greatly, and the vertical climate changes obviously. "There are four seasons in one mountain", "Different days in ten miles", "One foot high, different places" and "Different winds across mountains, different rains at the same time" are vivid portrayal of climate differences in different places. "Spring is in the lake (going to the kiln) and summer is in Nanshan (Yaoshan)" reflects the influence of climate on tea picking time. The common disastrous weather affecting Xiping is typhoon, late spring cold, summer drought and frost.

Xiping is the birthplace of famous teas such as Tieguanyin and Benshan. In 2002, it was recognized as "the birthplace of Tieguanyin tea in China" by the organizing committee recommended by China characteristic town. The number of tea gardens in Xiping is considerable, reaching as much as 37,000 mu, with an annual output of 6,000 tons of tea. The production base of high-quality Tieguanyin is10.5 million mu. More than 90% of the population lives on or dabbles in tea, and the number of tea gardens and the annual output of tea rank first in the county. There are many kinds of tea trees in Xiping, including Tieguanyin, Huang Jingui, Benshan and hairy crabs.
