Where is northwest Shanxi in China? What are the characteristics of the environment here?

Northwest Shanxi faces Mu Us sandy land, adjacent to Inner Mongolia and northern Shaanxi sandstorm areas, with harsh natural conditions and extremely fragile overall ecological environment. It is the only place where sandstorms in the northern region hit the central and western trunk lines of Beijing and Tianjin. Due to the long-term widespread phenomenon of indiscriminate mining, indiscriminate digging, reclamation and grazing in this area, land resources and vegetation have been seriously damaged. Coupled with unfavorable natural climatic conditions, there is no afforestation, which makes the land desertification and desertification in northwest Shanxi very serious and becomes a famous sandstorm source in the north.

In recent years, Shanxi Province has built1200,000 mu of contiguous forest in Sanggan River basin and the main sandstorm path leading to Beijing, and the survival rate of trees has reached more than 90%, effectively curbing the phenomenon of sand blowing on the surface and reducing the harm of sand dust. Since the early morning of March 20, Shanxi Province, which has been repeatedly hit by dust storms, has ushered in the largest intensity and scope of floating dust weather since the spring of this year. The raging sandstorm once again sounded the alarm of wind and sand prevention, soil and water conservation and ecological restoration.
