The development of history

The area north of the territory of the Western Zhou and Zhou Dynasties, including Hetao, Ningxia, Shaanxi and northwestern Shanxi in Inner Mongolia, is called Shuofang.

During the Spring and Autumn Period, today Guyuan area was inhabited by warrior Rong, and today this area is the sphere of influence of Yan centered on Yanchi. During the Warring States Period, King Huiwen of Qin seized Wu Rong's land and established Wushi County (now the north bank of Nanjingshui in Guyuan County) to govern today's Guyuan area. Later, in Yanchi County, Kanyan County was established to manage today's Yin Nan area.

After the thirty-fifth year of Qin Dynasty and the reign of Zhao Xiangwang (272 BC), the two counties were placed under the jurisdiction of Beijun County, which was the beginning of the administrative system in Ningxia. During the Qin Dynasty, Ningxia was a northern county, and the county governed Ning County in Gansu Province. Qin Changcheng and Qinqu were built here to divert water from the Yellow River to irrigate farmland.
