There is a fire in the room.
My master ordered to open the window to buy fruit.
He said, "The weather is neither cold nor hot.
Don't let it spoil me."
There was a beggar lying outside the house.
He clenched his teeth and shouted to the north wind, "Die!" "

Appreciation
Contrast is a common expression in the art of poetry. A contrast must be something completely opposite in form and nature. Du Fu's famous poem "The wine in Zhumen stinks, and the road has frozen bones" is a sharp contrast between the description of two things with completely opposite nature and characteristics. The life content expressed in A Layer of Paper is also of a comparative nature.
The poem shows two different lives and feelings. The master of a rich family, sitting in the house with the fire in winter, is warm. Not only does he feel cold, but he thinks the house is too hot for fear that the fire will damage his body. In the old society, this was the life of the exploiting classes. Five or six poems turn to describe the situation of a beggar who is hungry and cold. He is lying outside the house, attacked by the cold north wind, freezing to death, and constantly giving out * * * and shouting. At this time, how much he longed for a place to shelter from the wind and keep warm, but in fact it could only be a fantasy. The last two sentences of the poem express the poet's feelings: the situation of the master in the house and the beggar outside the house is very different, and this difference is only separated by a layer of paper! Poverty and wealth, cold and heat, two kinds of life and feelings have formed a contrast, which constitutes a very strong contrast. These two poems are also full of the poet's dissatisfaction and indignation at the unfair social reality.
This poem is one of the vernacular poems produced in the early May 4th New Literature Movement in China. In the language of poetry, we don't pursue flowery rhetoric, but strive to be true, simple and plain. The rhythm of poetry is also bright and powerful. Especially in the last sentence, the rhythm reaches the strongest tone, which not only echoes the title of the poem, but also deepens the theme of the poem.
