Background:

Wei Zhongxian squeezed Yang Lian away, but still refused to give up, and wanted to put him to death before he died. In the fifth year of the Apocalypse, Wei Zhongxian instigated the "eunuch" Dali Prime Minister Xu Dahua to impeach Yang Lian and Zuo Guangdou for "the party was united against dissidents and recruited power to accept bribes", and used the "Wang Wenyan Prison" to murder Yang Lian and others.

In June, Yang Lian was arrested and escorted to Beijing. When people along the way heard the news, they all complained about Yang Lian. They took the initiative to bid farewell to Lian in the streets, and in every village and market they passed, they "burned incense and made a memorial ceremony to pray for Lian's survival." At that time, under the initiative of the prefect Li Xingzhi, the county magistrate Xia Zhiyan, etc., "the four gates were set up, and the donation of salary was the first initiative. The scholars and the people who were good at righteousness were willing to help. It was also a monk, and it spread all over Wu, Chu, Shen and Zhejiang provinces." But in the end, only more than 10,000 taels were raised.
