Are Daur people really descendants of Qidan?
One is to prove from the perspective of comparing legends with facts. Legend has it that the Daur people began to flee northward after their defeat. After the demise of the Liao Kingdom of Qidan, one of the tribal leaders named Messenger led some Qidan people to flee from Chifeng to Hulunbeier. This legend coincides with the history of the Khitans. This is the first reason for supporters. The second reason is that the Daur nationality is consistent with the "Dahe nationality" of Qidan. Before the establishment of Liao Dynasty, the Khitan people had a name called "Dahe", which researchers thought was "Daur". "Yamato" later evolved into "Daur". This is also evidence. Third, the Khitans are engaged in various industries, such as agriculture, animal husbandry, forestry and fisheries. /kloc-In the middle of the 0/7th century, the Daur people were still engaged in agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry and fishery. In the 300 years before the 1940s, Daur people engaged in this mode of production. This is the same as the mode of production of the Khitans. Fourth, folk customs have certain consistency. People who hold this view find that, for example, playing hockey. We Daur play hockey. At the Beijing Olympic Games, four hockey players, all Daur, won the second place in this event. There are Daur hockey players in Guangzhou Asian Games. For example, the cuju played by Gao Qiu in Water Margin in the Northern Song Dynasty was the hockey in Daur period. In Liao Dynasty, people mostly liked to play with this kind of ball. So it is also a historical coincidence that the Khitans played hockey in Liao Dynasty, and now Daur people also play hockey. This is a way to compare history with facts. Also, in folklore, for example, in the dry season, the Khitans prayed for rain, and now Daur also has the custom of praying for rain. Moreover, Daur people pray for rain by the river, which is the same as Qidan people's habit of praying for rain. "Pray for rain" is called "Sasha Vujacic Instrument" in the Khitan language, which is not only playing music, but also splashing water. So the Khitans have this custom of praying for rain. In the Daur nationality, this habit still exists. In addition, there are clothing habits. Some people look for the basis of contact between Daur and Qidan in clothing. In the past, the clothing habit of Han people was to buckle the button on the right, which is the "right button". The clothes of Daur people used to be buckled on the left side, which is called "left week". During the Republic of China, there was a famous politician of Han nationality named "Yu Youren". Why do you call him "entertainment"? It means "I don't approve of you left-handers", which means opposing the politics of the Qing Dynasty, so I want to be right-handed. The Khitans are left-handed. In many murals of the Khitan period, many characters' clothes are left-handed. Historically, the Daur nationality has the historical fact of "Zuozhou" in legends and materials. The concept of "Zuo Zhou" didn't exist before, but it only came into being in recent years. Some researchers who put forward that Daur people are descendants of Qidan have put forward this view. China Social Sciences: In addition, according to some scholars' research, one of the descendants of the Khitan went north to Hulunbeier and the other went south. Have you heard of this in Yunnan today? Yi Song: I've heard of it. After being defeated by the Jin Dynasty, the Khitans fled to the west instead of the north, such as Xinjiang and Kazakhstan, where the Western Liao Dynasty was established. Those who fled to the south did not go when the Liao Dynasty perished. After the demise of the Liao dynasty, the Jin dynasty ruled the former Liao country. The Jin Dynasty was quickly defeated by the Yuan Dynasty, that is, the Mongols. The Khitans, who were ruled by the rulers, were later ruled by the Mongols. In this way, these Khitans joined the Mongolian army and began to attack the Southern Song Dynasty southward, running all the way to today's Yunnan and settling down there. For example, there are many Mongolians in the Central Plains, which were left over from Kublai Khan's attack on the Southern Song Dynasty. From 65438 to 0990, Meng Zhidong, Institute of Ethnic Studies, Inner Mongolia Academy of Social Sciences, went to Yunnan to investigate the descendants of Khitan. Meng Zhidong later wrote a book called "A Study on the Descendants of Qidan in Yunnan", which made it clear to the descendants of Qidan in Yunnan, including the historical situation, language situation, ethnic situation and the relationship with the Daur nationality. But most of these people are Han, but also Dai, Yi and Bulang, all of whom have assimilated with the local people. At that time, when the Yuan Dynasty perished, they did not return to the north. Because they came from Kublai Khan, with a history of 700 to 800 years, they have gradually integrated into local living habits. China Social Sciences Journal: What did you find in language when you were investigating in Yunnan? Yi Song: According to Meng's investigation, they still have some Daur language, which is called Khitan language. China Social Sciences Journal: Please give an example? Yi Song: For example, they call the river that flows down from the mountain "Omgill". Omgill means an untamed horse in Daur. This river flows down from the mountain, and stones bigger than people can be washed down. It is as wild as a runaway horse, so it is called the Omgill River. This word shows the language connection between Daur people who came to Yunnan and Daur people. The so-called descendants of Qidan in Yunnan also have only language but no writing. What they are speaking now is not the language used by northerners in the past, but a new language formed after evolution and integration with the local area. China Social Sciences Journal: Is the language used by Daur passed down from ancestors? Yi Song: Yes, the language spoken by the Daur people now is the language that has been used by the Daur people since their national records. In addition, Daur language is considered as an ancient language. Why do you say that? Because the Secret History of Mongolia appeared in the13rd century, some people think that understanding the Secret History of Mongolia requires understanding Daur language, because the language of Daur language is exactly the same as that of the Secret History of Mongolia. China Social Sciences Journal: Is there any connection between the language used by Daur and Khitan? Yi Song: Researchers who agree that Daur people are descendants of Qidan people think that Daur language and Qidan language are related. There are several pieces of evidence: for example, iron is called "Kasa Oh" in Qidan language according to the interpreted Qidan characters, and "iron" is also called "Kasa Oh" in Daur language. In addition, there is "Taolai" in the Khitan language, that is, rabbit, and the Daur language calls rabbit "Li Tao", with basically the same pronunciation. There is also "population growth", which is called "Pusu Bai" in Daur language and "Pusu Wan" in Qidan language.
