How to distinguish between heavy rain and light rain

Rain and light rain in heavy rain are distinguished according to precipitation.

Light rain: it means that the rainfall within 24 hours is below 0. 1- 10.0mm;

Moderate rain: it means that the rainfall within 24 hours is10.1-25.0mm;

Rainstorm: refers to the rainfall of 25.1-50.0mm within 24 hours;

In the weather forecast, there are clear scientific definitions of "light rain", "moderate rain", "heavy rain" and "heavy rain" and "extremely heavy rain" in meteorology.

For example, "sporadic light rain" means that the precipitation time is very short and the precipitation does not exceed 0. 1 mm; "Sometimes there is light rain" means that the weather is gloomy and sometimes there will be short-term precipitation; "Shower" refers to the sudden start and end of summer precipitation, one big and one small, with heavy rainfall; "Thunderstorm" means a shower accompanied by lightning; "There is rain in some areas" means that precipitation occurs in a small area and its distribution is irregular.

Extended data:

Measured by rain gauge or rain gauge, in millimeters. Daily rainfall observation can be divided into four types: 24 segments (1h), 8 segments (3h), 4 segments (6h) and 1 segment (24h).

There are two methods for daily rainfall statistics: 20-20 hours and 08-08 hours. At present, the daily rainfall announced by domestic TV and radio programs is 08 ~ 08, which represents the rainfall of the previous day.

Light rain: 1d (or 24h) rainfall is less than 10mm.

Moderate rain: 1d (or 24h) rainfall 10 ~ 25mm.

Rainstorm: 1d (or 24h) rainfall is 25 ~ 50mm.

Rainstorm: 1d (or 24h) rainfall 50 ~ 100mm.

Rainstorm: 1d (or 24h) rainfall 100 ~ 250mm.

Extraordinary rainstorm: 1d (or 24h) rainfall is more than 250mm.

Light snow: the snowfall process in which the snowfall is less than 1.0mm within 12 hours (equivalent to melting rainfall, the same below) or less than 2.5mm within 24 hours.

Medium snow: 12 hour snowfall1.0 ~ 3.0mm, or 24-hour snowfall of 2.5 ~ 5.0mm or snow depth of 3cm.

Heavy snow: the snowfall process in which the snowfall is 3.0 ~ 6.0mm in 12 hour or 5.0 ~10.0mm in 24 hours or the snow depth reaches 5cm.
