Sludge gas: gas produced by decomposition of organic matter during anaerobic digestion of sludge, mainly composed of methane and carbon dioxide, and a small amount of hydrogen, nitrogen and hydrogen sulfide. Commonly known as biogas.

Sludge digestion: under aerobic or anaerobic conditions, the organic matter in sludge is transformed into relatively stable substances through the action of microorganisms.

Aerobic digestion: the process in which part of the organic matter in sludge is degraded and stabilized by aerobic microorganisms after long-term aeration.

Anaerobic digestion: Under anaerobic conditions, the organic matter in sludge is degraded and stabilized by anaerobic microorganisms.

Mesophilic digestion: anaerobic digestion of sludge at 33-530℃

Thermophilic digestion: anaerobic digestion of sludge at 53-330 degrees Celsius.

Sludge concentration: the process of reducing the water content of sludge and concentrating it by gravity or air flotation.

A sludge pretreatment method for improving sludge dewatering performance. Washing sludge with clean water or waste water can reduce the alkalinity of digested sludge, save the amount of sludge treatment and improve the efficiency of sludge filtration and dehydration.

Sludge dewatering: the process of further removing part of water from concentrated sludge, generally referring to mechanical dewatering.

Vacuum filtration of sludge: a method of sludge dewatering, in which one side of the filter medium is depressurized by vacuum, so that the pressure difference between the two sides of the medium is generated, forcing the muddy water to filter through the medium.

Sludge pressure filtration: a method of sludge dewatering, in which sludge water is forced into the filter medium by positive pressure filtration.

Sludge drying: the process of removing most of the water in sludge by percolation or evaporation, which generally refers to the drying facilities using self-evaporation facilities such as sludge drying field (bed) or heat sources such as steam, flue gas and hot oil.

Sludge incineration: sludge disposal process. It uses an incinerator to heat and dry the dehydrated sludge, and then oxidizes the organic matter in the sludge at high temperature to turn the sludge into a small amount of ashes.
