1. Spread ice-forming catalysts such as silver iodide into the cloud to produce a large number of artificial hail embryo particles in the cloud, which compete with natural hail embryos for supercooled water droplets (low temperature) in the cloud. (water droplets that do not freeze at 0°C), greatly reducing the size of hailstones. When small hailstones fall into warm clouds with temperatures above 0°C, they melt into rain. Even if they are not completely melted, the damage is greatly reduced.
When the cloud is close to precipitation conditions, the ice crystals produced by the refrigerant spread into the cloud can quickly bind the surrounding small water droplets to form precipitation particles, which quickly condense to form precipitation; at the same time, the ice crystals are released. The latent heat can increase the temperature of clouds, promote the development of convection, and increase the probability of precipitation.
2. Spread hygroscopic particles such as salt and urea of ??appropriate size and sufficient quantity in the lower part of the cloud. These particles will produce large water droplets due to moisture absorption, promote the development of warm rain, and reduce the number of supercooled water droplets. It deprives the moisture needed for the growth of hailstones and curbs the development of hailstones.
3. Use traditional rockets or anti-aircraft guns to bombard hail clouds. The shock wave generated by the explosion can change the updraft in the cloud and shatter the developing hail particles, thereby reducing hail damage and increasing precipitation. Purpose.
There are different opinions on the mechanism of action of this method, and there is no consensus yet. At present, our country generally uses the method of firing silver iodide shells from anti-aircraft guns or rockets to carry out artificial hail prevention and rainfall enhancement operations. It is the use of the above scientific methods that brings huge economic and social benefits to various places every year.
