Brief introduction of Gongga Temple

Gongga Temple, located in Kangding County, Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province, was founded in the middle of13rd century by Zabaiba (the first living Buddha of Gongga), a disciple of the second Karmapa Bashi, with a history of more than 600 years.

Gongga Temple is a place where living Buddhists practiced and closed their doors in the past dynasties, covering an area of about 2 mu, echoing the main peak of Gongga Mountain at a distance of 7556 meters, with the effect of harmony between man and nature.

The hiking route from Zimei Village to Laogongga Temple is very primitive, along the Gongga River, from which you can watch the main peak of Gongga.

Gongga Temple is the only way from Kangding to Gongga. Hikers can plan their foothold in advance and watch the sunset and dawn in Gongga. The temple is a quadrangle-style building with the main hall in the center, and it is dedicated to the statues of Master Marba, Master Mirariba and Master Tapola Jie, the three founders of the Kagyu Sect of Tibetan Buddhism.

On the right side of the main hall is the Dharma Hall, followed by the Sutra Hall. Because the altitude here is relatively high, lamas and monks generally don't come, which is relatively cold and cheerless, and it is more lively only when the Fa Conference is held.

Tents will be set up on the lawn in front of Gongga Temple. When the weather is good, you can climb to the top of the mountain behind Gongga Temple, about 1 hour, and you can enjoy Gongga Mountain better. When playing, you need to travel in a civilized way to protect the ecological environment.
