What's the matter with dry eyes (eyes are always dry and photophobic)
After watching the mobile phone all day, do you feel sour, dry and astringent? In addition to playing mobile phones, staring at electronic screens such as computers and tablets for a long time can easily lead to visual fatigue or dry eye. Dry weather and windy sand in spring are more likely to induce dry eye, so how to prevent it?
Dry eye, also known as keratoconjunctivitis sicca, is a common eye disease in clinic, mainly due to the pathological changes of conjunctival tissue itself, the decrease of tear secretion, the change of tear composition or the relaxation of conjunctiva, which leads to the instability of tear film.
Eyes are like reservoirs, lacrimal glands are faucets and lacrimal passages are sewers. The main reason for suffering from dry eye is that there is too little water in the "reservoir" to meet the needs of corneal lubrication.
What are the symptoms of dry eye?
The common symptoms of dry eye are dry eyes and foreign body sensation. Other symptoms include burning sensation, itching sensation, photophobia, congestion, pain, blurred vision, fatigue, sticky filamentous secretion and so on. In more serious cases, the eyes will be red and swollen, hyperemia, keratinization, corneal epithelial rupture, accompanied by filamentous adhesion. This kind of injury will cause keratoconjunctival lesions for a long time, which will affect vision and even lead to blindness.
What are the causes of dry eye?
Lacrimal gland secretion decrease or composition change, corneal nerve density decrease, meibomian gland density decrease, and lipid secretion change caused by meibomian gland duct occlusion due to keratinization will all cause insufficient tear secretion, thus inducing dry eye.
Studies have confirmed that the following factors will also increase the risk of dry eye:
Age:
Dry eye is more common in people over 40 years old, because with the increase of age, the secretion function of tears will gradually weaken.
Gender:
Compared with men, women are more likely to suffer from dry eye. At the same time, pregnant, contraceptive and menopausal women will aggravate dry eye symptoms due to hormonal changes.
Environment:
Patients with other diseases (such as diabetes and depression) may indirectly affect the structure or function of the ocular surface, resulting in dry eyes. With the long-term wearing of contact lenses and the abuse of eye drops, especially with the increasing popularity of mobile phones, computers, air conditioners and other video terminals, the number of new patients with dry eye is further increasing.
Dry eye test
Dryness, foreign body sensation, soreness, fatigue, photophobia and congestion.
If any of the above six symptoms appear frequently, it means that you are likely to have a tendency to dry eye.
If the situation is serious or symptoms appear frequently, you need to see a doctor in time and receive professional treatment. Of course, the usual prevention must not fall.
How to prevent dry eye?
1. Reduce the use of computers or mobile phones.
* Pay attention to rest and adjust the distance and position between the monitor and eyes.
Keep the computer screen properly below the line of sight, and the viewing angle is not less than 15 degrees, or stand up and adjust at regular intervals. Looking down slightly can relatively reduce the exposure of ptosis, and pay attention to the adjustment and relaxation of cervical and lumbar vertebrae.
* Don't turn off the lights when playing with your mobile phone.
Many people are used to using computers and mobile phones in the dark at night, as if the candy knocked on the bed is sweeter than during the day. But the dark environment is more likely to cause visual fatigue, so even if you brush your mobile phone before going to bed, at least turn on a night light.
2. Reduce the use of air conditioners
Air conditioning will reduce the moisture content in the air, leading to faster evaporation of tear film, which is easy to make eyes dry. If you blow the air conditioner every day, it is best to install a humidifier around you to prevent dry eyes.
Wear rimmed glasses
Wearing contact lenses for a long time will reduce the secretion of tears. Wearing contact lenses and watching computers and mobile phones for a long time are important reasons why young people suffer from dry eye. Therefore, it is recommended to wear rimmed glasses, and it is best for people over 40 to use bifocal lenses.
4. Pay attention to eyelid hygiene and apply hot compress before going to bed.
Wash your hands frequently and don't rub your eyes. Hot compress with hot towel or steam eye mask before going to bed can not only promote the secretion of oil in meibomian gland, reduce the evaporation of tears, improve the symptoms of dry eye, but also improve the blood flow around eyes and relieve eye fatigue.
Blink more
Blinking is the supplement and renewal of tear film to maintain a complete tear film, and the defect of tear film will cause corneal epithelium to fall off, and the feeling of eyes may progress from dryness to pain and blurred vision.
It is recommended to blink at a frequency of 4 -6 times per minute.
