Why is Chongqing so hot?

The main reason of Chongqing fever is its geographical location.

Chongqing is located in the southeast edge of Sichuan Basin, among many parallel mountains with the same trend. This terrain is called the parallel ridge valley in eastern Sichuan. Parallel ridges and valleys, as the name implies, are the orderly arrangement of convex mountains, hills and valleys, which constitute the combination of landform types of parallel ridges and valleys.

The main city of Chongqing is located in the syncline valley between parallel mountains separated from Huaying Mountain in Sichuan, such as Wuyun Mountain, Jinyun Mountain, Zhongliang Mountain and Longwang Dongshan Mountain.

The geographical environment characteristics of parallel ravines have great influence on climate. The southeast monsoon from the Pacific Ocean and the southwest monsoon from the Indian Ocean are heavily blocked by the mountains around the basin and parallel mountains such as Huaying Mountain and Mingyue Mountain. It is difficult to cross these natural barriers, which brings coolness to Chongqing in the basin and intensifies the heat in Chongqing.

Urban heat island effect in Chongqing;

Air pollutants produced by industrial production, transportation and other daily life aggravate urban air pollution, and the number of good absorbers of infrared radiation such as air carbon dioxide increases, which leads to the urban atmosphere absorbing more infrared radiation and heating up.

There are many high-rise buildings and dense buildings in Chongqing, which block the circulation of air, weaken the wind speed and delay the diffusion of hot air. In urban densely populated areas and industrial and commercial developed areas, there are more energy-consuming equipment and more heat discharged into the air, which further aggravates the urban heat island effect.

The weather in Chongqing is as warm as the people here. This enthusiasm includes the boldness of Chongqing children eating hot pot and chopping firewood with bare arms, as well as the gentleness and femininity of Chongqing girls in the fog. Compared with the nicknames "Mountain City", "Jiangcheng" and "Du Qiao" which are most frequently called in Chongqing, "Furnace" and "Fog City" are undoubtedly more famous.
