In the Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Zhuge Liang is a resourceful counselor. He predicted that there would be fog on the river in three days, and then borrowed one hundred thousand arrows from Cao Cao. However, just when Sima Yi was burned to death in the valley above, a heavy rain ruined Zhuge Liang's great cause of restoring the Han Dynasty. Cao Wei's ambition was not paid, which brought hope to Sima Yi who was dying. Why did Zhuge Liang predict that there would be fog on the river when he burned Sima Yi, but did not calculate that it would rain?

As far as the literariness of literary works is concerned, the story of Zhuge Liang shooting an arrow with a straw boat happened in the heyday of Liu Bei's power. The author deified Zhuge Liang in order to express that there was a powerful counselor among Liu Bei's forces.
